Hi there Cari, The food recommendation lists are based on published research. Within the research, a relationship or association is determined for specific foods and specific species of bacteria. The goal of the food recommendation list is to optimize the biome specifically looking at deficient beneficial bacteria and pathogenic overgrowth of bacteria. Since a food item may be labeled as having a positive or negative effect on the species of bacteria, the resulting suggestion is either to incorporate or avoid it in the diet.
