“I bought the newer version Pump Rebuild Kit to replace a worn, older style pump head. It's gotta be an improvement, no? Not quite. Despite following the instructions, I found the Presta head is very difficult to fit over the threads used by the valve cap. And yes; I know I don't have to push it on any further and the lever is in the Open position when I affix the head to the valve. Notice the photos are labeled "Wrong" and "Better. What I found is, due to the palm-length shape of the head's handle, when applied in the "Wrong" position, with the valve at 12 or 6 o'clock, the head hangs at an angle and depresses the valve making it all but impossible to put air in the tire. With the pump head at 3 or 9 o'clock it's better but it is very fussy as to the position of the valve on the wheel and whether the chuck will deflate the tire or not provide a good seal. The older, smaller style pump head did not give me such aggravation. What I would like to see is the hose and valve be in-line with each other such as Silca's press-on head. Hopefully I'll adapt to this mild annoyance, and also the gasket will wear a bit making it easier to apply the chuck.”
