“This might be long, but context for these expensive and important purchases is important:
Short version: Personal service through several phone calls with David at PrimecomTech resulted in a purpose-built adapter ($89) to work with the PrimecomeTech 32/40 Level Two charger saved me over $850 in electrician charges and some bad mistakes in off the shelf adapters and extension cords. How often these days do you as a consumer get the boss to walk you through what for many of us is complicated electrical issues in over six phone calls in a week--including on the line with the electrician at my house. And ask for pictures to review my wiring and breaker box to inform his advice. And then build the needed adapter on the spot.
Long Version: I purchased a new Kia Niro EV. Then I started the online/You Tube/all over the Internet/Amazon searches for information, opinions, ratings, Level One, Level Two, Level Three charging, etc. etc. I also already have a 30 amp RV plug installed next to my driveway with a 30 amp system with 30 amp breaker for our RV--and while I wanted to use that, it complicated things trying to match plugs and circuits to the charging of the car which has its own requiremnts. I was resigned to finding an electrician and installing a whole new circuit--around here that's 1000 bucks or more with parts--50 feet of 10 gauge, 3-wire copper wire ain't cheap and finding an electrician to pull that wire through the basement through the exterior wall to the breaker box is a crapshoot.
I found PrimecomTech on Amazon along with half a dozen other companies. I liked the options for plugs offered by the Primecom chargers right off the bat and thought they might solve the compatibility problem. I clicked on the website and saw the phone number and called about 6 PM and got David. A nearly 45-minute conversation followed as he dissected my needs and told me why the decisions and purchases of off the shelf RV adapters would not work. So I purchased not only the 32-40 amp Level Two charger, but a handmade by PrimecomTech copper wire adapter for the 14-50p plug end that worked with the RV plug style I already had.
IMPORTANT: Rather that rewire a whole new circuit, in the next few (yup, I called him a half a dozen times, sent him pictures he asked for, and he spent time with me AND the electrician while the electrician was at the house) he described how to simply install a dual pole circuit breaker on the existing 30 amp line, check the wiring to confirm copper and 10 gauge (it is). $30 for the breaker, one hour for the electrician, full 32 amp charging (the max for my car) now works in the driveway for my Niro-- done. $89 purpose built adapter by PrimecomTech; 6+ phone calls over the course of one week, and David working with the electrician. Result: the 32/40 Level Two charger adapted to my RV 30 amp system works like a champ and it saved me least $850.
The electrician confirmed everything David told me was accurate, safe, and the right thing to do to avoid overcharges, toasted circuits, potential damage to the car.
And it was built on the spot for my unique needs, packed by hand by PrimecomTech, and sent two-day priority so I could get it time to travel with the new car on Christmas break.
Costs are nearly the same for all of these base Level Two chargers. An RV 14-50 plug adapter for my 30 amp plug off Amazon would have cost me $59 and either not worked at all or fried my system and/or car system. $30 more for a copper wire, built on the spot by PrimecomTech 14-50p adapter that works like a champ.
Sorry for the length but I have never had a buying decision of this amount and complexity that went so well and where I learned so much. It just doesn't happen anymore. And no, I wasn't paid--in fact I still have a refund due from the first purchase of the 16 amp version which would have worked but was way, way too slow for the 30 amps I already have available. No pressure from David but when I got a bit smarter about all of this I asked, and told me I could use the 3 times faster 32/40 system, so I sent the 16 amp version back last week.
Thanks again to David and PrimecomTech. This stuff ain't cheap, and installing it just adds to the cost. Getting it right is important.”
“We got our 220 dedicated line to our garage put in and ordered our prime COM level two charging cable. Don’t have a whole lot of peers using such in Central Alabama, so when I had questions that came up naturally it was very reassuring to be able to call and have David pick up the phone and answer them matter of factly. The quality of the product, the shipping and the experience of placing the order and then answer questions on the front side as well was top shelf customer service.”
“100% of the features I need.
0% of the features I do not need.
50% of the price that it would have cost me had I purchased a product with the features I do not need.
Great product.
I use it with a Hyundai Kona 2021. I use the scheduled charging feature on the car to charge between say 12 am and 7 am.
Highly recommended.
32A/30 feet.
I had my electrician build a 12-50R (40-50A wiring/40A breaker which can be upgraded to 50A in the future if I need to) halfway through my garage so that the cable can reach the car whether it is parked in the front spot or the back spot (tandem).”
“your tech was very helpful ! we used your 220 volt cord to up grade a 2020 chrysler pacifica hybrid and in proces the man we contacted was very helpful ! tell him thanks .”
“Well packaged, quality evse. The shortest cable is longer than my previous evse and it's thicker and charges twice as fast. Solidly built, love the digital readout for amps and total kw's delivered. Very satisfied with purchase.”
