“Being mostly a builder of WW2 and later aircraft kits; I'm always surprised at the relative size of 1/350 scale submarines; this HobbyBoss kit is a good example. I know a sub is tiny compared to most surface warships, however, I would have expected a bit finer surface detail on the halves of this sub's hull. They are mere small 'bumps' on the hull but, I'll reserve my final opinion for when I've finished the build.
There's probably a slim chance of aftermarket enhancements but I'll have a look anyway.
I like doing subs as a nice break from aircraft but I reckon subs should have their own special scale seeing as they are much smaller compared to other naval craft. Perhaps a new standard 1/200 scale would do the trick.
I wish I could give this kit a higher score but the interesting detail is just not obvious enough. It is a clean mould, no flash and looks like it will fit together really well. I'll be doing a 'dry fit' soon.
As far as the purchase process from RCModelCraft goes it was easy and smooth, as usual and at a decent price; although I would have gladly paid more for increased model detail. Cheers, BH”
