Student engagement was very high. The students also did some excellent writing - great results.
“Excellent resource- very authentic context with the different artifacts. Knowing that they belonged to actual soldiers helped the students move beyond just the guns and warfare aspects. Website was very user friendly but I did need to support some of my learners with the reading / comprehension of some text .”

“It was a truly humbling experience for my students to research the hardships and sacrifices many NZers had during WW1. It led them to discover their own family paths and share their journeys. We built trenches and wrote letters home to our families, presented research through Kahoot quizzes and dioramas and came away with a much better understanding of our forebears.”

The students were very engaged. My Year 4/5 class would have struggles with some of the independent research so we did a lot together as a class in short bursts. Due to school production deadlines we had a shorter timeframe than I would have liked this ye
“A fantastic resource. We worked through some of the items and stories together as a class, taking turns to pull an item out of the box or envelope. It was so exciting for the students to find the treasures in the box and be able to open official looking envelopes. The students loved hearing the stories and finding other photos or snippets of information about the person on the webpage.”
What did you notice about student engagement in the learning with the Walking with an ANZAC kit?
I have found that a number of my boys have been particularly engaged in this as a number have Military connections in their families. This has prompted them to share their whakapapa and family history with others.
“As a class we have been working our way through the WW100 Kit. The kids are loving having the items in the kit to touch and connect with. The website was great as the students enjoyed being able to click on the image and easily read about the story of that item. It has been easy to navigate and use.”
