What did you notice about student engagement in the learning with the Walking with an ANZAC kit? They were trying to put themselves in the place of the soldiers and what it would be like if their 16 - 18 year old brother were to go to war. The students liked researching the objects and using some of those objects in the artworks.
A wonderful resource that students found interesting. Students wanted to know more about the people in the photos and the past.

We LOVED using the walking with the ANZAC kit sent out. This was a powerful discussion and writing tool that we used on and off through our inquiry learning. Huge appreciation to the time and effort into putting such a high quality kit together. Will definitely be using the website for further discussion in the future.

What did you notice about student engagement in the learning with the Walking with an ANZAC kit? Students found the variety and quality of the resources provided provoking. There was more than enough for groups and individuals to engage with a unique item or story resulting in unique learning pathways.
The tangible nature of the resource allowed for genuine exploration and inquiry. Student's physical connection to the objects allowed them to access thinking about the experience and perspectives of the original owners.

What did you notice about student engagement in the learning with the Walking with an ANZAC kit? We did it as our lead up to ANZAC Day and the artefacts gave us great discussion starters. It is much better to be able to touch the artefacts, rather than just looking at pictures of them. We have added some other things to the box.
What a great time we had using this box and discovering the stories within it. My year 4's found it hard to connect up the people with the artefacts, but gave it a good go. They loved being able to touch the artefacts and knowing they were from actual real people made it authentic and made them think more seriously about it all.

What did you notice about student engagement in the learning with the Walking with an ANZAC kit? Great student engagement. The objects created loads of discussion and lots of questions. Many children used these opportunities to talk about their own family members who had been to war etc.
An awesome kit! Loads of engagement with the different objects and a very good supporting website. I have a Year 4 class who found the content/reading a little challenging but understand that the kit was designed for Year 5 and above. Scaffolded them through and they were able to create a collaborative slideshow about a number of the people who owned the objects. Loads of great discussion was had!

What did you notice about student engagement in the learning with the Walking with an ANZAC kit? The students were actually fascinated by the all of the statistics on the posters, which led to lots of discussion. They also loved looking at, and physically examining, all of the items in the box - the handkerchief, buttons, photos, the telegrams - thes
Our junior Social Studies programme didn't allow me to fit in this WW100 Discovery Box , so instead, I used it with my Year 11 History class. We used the items in the box to talk about historical primary sources, and how they could tell us about the impact of the war on NZ society. From there the students researched one of the items, through the Walking with an Anzac site. They really enjoyed finding out how to negotiate sites such as Archway and Papers Past to conduct historical research. Those who had relatives who had fought in the wars were excited to be able to then go on to find out information about their own family: ";this is why I chose history!"; was one enthusiastic comment. After using the box to learn about ways to carry out historical research, we also used the items in the box, including all those great posters, to write practice annotations for our level one history assessment, using the focus question ";What was the impact of WW1 on NZ society?"; Overall, a fantastic set of resources, that can be used at both junior and senior levels.

What did you notice about student engagement in the learning with the Walking with an ANZAC kit? The students enjoyed the hands on aspect of the resource. An excellent range of primary evidence suitable for range of abilities, which is extremely useful in our learning environment as differentiation is a strong focus at our school. The hands on aspect of the kit increased learner engagement. The range of display material allows the kit to be shared in different learning settings. The kit is a culturally relevant resource suitable for our focus of culturally responsive pedagogy.
