“I've never really considered myself a Feminist but this kit had me wanting to burn all my bras!! It was thought provoking, challenging, and interesting all rolled into one informative kit. We loved it :)”
“This was a great kit to start the discussion around how things were and where we are now. Students especially found the discussion cards helpful as they included facts for today and generated great discussion.
To get real feedback we visited a retirement nursing home (Ropata Lodge) to run a focus group of women to answer the students questions. The oldest Resident was 101yrs old. Photos attached. It was great for the students to hear how things were for women from different roles in NZ. They also had a lovely morning tea and chat individually.”
“What an awesome kit, the children (year 6) learnt so much about what it was like to be a woman during this time and how powerful the can be when one woman takes the lead.”
“My students enjoyed the discussions that arose from the items in the display. They were rather astounded when we did the Are we there yet? drawing activity by their sub-conscious responses with all the boys only drawing males, 1 girl drawing 2 females and the other girls drawing 1 of each gender. It led to an excellent discussion about the visibility of women in roles that question stereotypes. I then asked them to chose a profession that they wouldn’t necessarily associate with women, and they researched a NZ female. They shared their findings and printed photos for the gallery wall.”
“What an amazing resource to deliver a twist on our concept for term 1 - Diversity. Students were ignited by gender stereotyping and invisible women tasks, understood real life applications of statistics and researched NZ trailblazers of the past. We will continue this unit in Term 3 when the school returns to Diversity - to build on the knowledge and skills learned through this amazing resource!”
“What an amazing kit! Was very powerful for the Year 6 girls in our MLE space. We offered it to our girls first because there only 15 of them in our 56 student space. We endeavour to ensure they don't feel like a minority - this kit was the perfect way to make them feel empowered.”
