“What an amazing, inspiring kit! The students loved finding out about inspirational women who changed the world for them and in their own country. They were super interested and went above and beyond to research and create displays showcasing the woman they chose to research, they emailed questions, found websites and other avenues to find online, interviewed their families about what they knew and were able to compare their findings to their own world. Everything from women firefighters, mountain climbers, pilots, politicians, doctors and how to break into traditionally male careers and areas of society.”
“A fantastic front loader for our topic 'The Cost of being a Pioneer'. The students loved seeing the ancient materials used and how powerful women were and not only men.”
“My students loved the Are We There Yet kit.
They found it so fascinating to see how times have changed for women in New Zealand.
Some found it a little more challenging and maybe not a topic of interest but overall very well received.”
“This has been a fantastic resource to get our students thinking about feminism, the role women have historically taken in our society and the present status quo. Students have been surprised and, in some cases, astounded at the information they have uncovered.
Thank you so much for a thought provoking, relevant social studies kit.”
“The kit was great and had lots of potential for older students. The parts we did were very powerful and had students bringing in their family to share their learning in the mornings.”
“My students loved the 'Are We There Yet' kit. They got so passionate about it and were disgusted by some of the statistics about the treatment of women.”
“Students at Queen's High School absolutely loved this approach. We got some deep learning and learned good research skills. Students are very adamant now that they will be exercising their right to vote and will vote to help others. They really enjoyed exploring local Dunedin women.
As a school, we found some issues with ethics and interviews. I contacted School Kit but didn't hear back., we weren't certain how to send through interviews etc, that didn't have an ethics form signed, and I was trying to gather what would happen with the information.”
“The kit was useful as a resource and provided some great visual resources that thelped the students appreciate and understand the Suffrage process in New Zealand. I used the resources to develop communication skills and developing the skills of the students to express opinions and deeper thinking around women in our community from then to the future.”
