How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? So great - will definitely repeat every year to get those discussions going.
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? So much - really makes you think about all perspectives, rather than just the one written down.
Fantastic kit for looking at history or even current events from all perspectives. It generated fabulous discussions about how different characters would feel and how easily things can be misinterpreted by others. This was easy to link to our current day lives and how we need to think about how others feel.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? It opened their eyes and minds to different versions, feelings and experiences of the same event.
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? One of my students is from the United States and only came to NZ this year. She summed it up for me when she said 'everyone in America has heard of Captain Cook, and NZ. No one has heard of the Maori side at all'. My teaching of NZ history has been from o
Very engaging for students. Generated a lot of rich conversation, and provoked some really thoughtful questions from the students.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? We discussed ‘The Danger of a single story’ and made connections with ourselves. Students had a better understanding of NZ History.
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? It allowed me to teach NZ History in a way that engaged the learners. Students were able to find more information of each of the characters through research. They linked some of the information to the Treaty which we learnt about in Term 1.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? I observed a lot of personal reflection and tamariki relating to their own life experiences in terms of racism and cultural oppression. As tamariki, they were able to relate to unfairness and unjustified actions from personal encounters. Being able to ide
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? Has opened up my idea of New Zealand history and the different moments in history that we should and shouldn't be so proud of. As a teacher, my own learning is as important as the tamariki's, and wish to continue adding to my knowledge of our history.
A Fantastic Kit My tamariki really loved this kit and its resources - they enjoyed the hands-on aspects of the cards and the objects included. The year 3-4 students from our class had a rich sense of pride sharing their knowledge with our other HUB classes. Being able to share the exhibitions they had created to inform their peers but also demonstrate on a deeper level how there isn't always a straight forward story and that other people's actions are not always rightfully justified.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? We used this approach to look at the events at Parihaka in 1881, and those at Ihumatou this year. Why might people have a different perspective? Will definitely revisit the kit again in 2021 – we have booked in a visit to our local museum already for term
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? Was a great kit to support the students to understand that history was not just the study of dates and facts. Year 5/6 students had outstanding discussions on how our own values and experiences would affect how we see events today.
Fantastic Kit. Great to have a resource to support the teaching of New Zealand history that acknowledges and values the multiple perspectives and stories behind an event. So often the history told is the story of the European men that were present. The items in the kit were engaging and the amazing detail brought the story to life. The support from Auckland museum with the zoom meeting was also very helpful as a teacher to get my head around what was available in the kit and how to use it to engage with the students. The teaching approaches and activities suggested generated outstanding discussions from year 5/6 students. We went on to look at another important event in new Zealand history: the event at Parihaka in 1881.
