How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? This resource was amazing for helping ākonga to explore different perspectives and started some great in depth about colonisation and how that might look/feel to different groups. We were also able to relate it to a few social problems that we were having
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? It has empowered me to teach New Zealand History more effectively and more often- I believe that NZ History is such an important taonga for our akonga to learn, however, I sometimes shy away from it or don't give it the justice it deserves as I don't feel
An awesome resource that I look forward to using again in future :)

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? Fantastic. We had great debates about who saw what and when and who saw what actually happened.
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? NZ history can sometimes be a bit dull as there's not that much of it but this kit made the teaching of this particular period in time so interesting!
This kit was one of our favourites! The student's loved taking on the persona of the characters and learning about POV. We re-enacted the landing and the tragic events that followed and had a lot of fun finding out about who saw what and a bit of a debate about the whole situation! The students wrote a diary entry from the objects POV and we had some amusing writing! It was great to track the journey of the Endeavour and the students loved dusting off the atlas' and finding the places mentioned, especially the familiar Top of the South places. We added a few extra resources such as the book 'The Cook Who Cooked for Captain Cook' (the kids loved hearing the recipes!) as well as some extra video clips we found on You tube. We found articles and stories about the Endeavour, Cook and Tupaia and integrated these for guided reading. Great Kit!

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? Was too much for my year 2/3's but got some good discussion with my year 4's and 5's.
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? It's always been a tricky area for me as my iwi was heavily colonised and the outcomes for my whānau and roopu were (and still are) quite negative. The point of view mahi was excellent and anchored and reframed discussions for me - thank you!
I started this kit with my level 2/3 students then our school had a re-shuffle with school numbers and I ended up with Year 2's as well! The Year 4 and 5's found this useful and engaging however was too much for my year 2's and 3's. They were less engaged in discussions and writing but liked the stories though.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? They realized after about the third card that the characters were all discussing the same event. My class tended to focus more on the historic elements of this kit more so than the perspectives. They were and still are very much engaged in finding out mor
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? I loved exploring this story with my class as it was one I didn't know about. The class have asked for more stories like this so are busy researching other historic events in NZ history. It would be fantastic to do other stories in our history using this
My class of Year 7's enjoyed reading out the character cards and finding out how the people and objects all related to each other and how there was more than one perspective. It was a little unclear when it came to the mapping as it didn't have all the place names on the map. They enjoyed learning a different story about our history. My class decided to independently explore the objects more and one even researched ship biscuits, cooked some and bought them to school for us all to try. There were chanced for a lot of independent learning which was fantastic. This kit gave them little hints into our history which made them want to explore our history more.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? They thought about how people came to NZ from different times. We also did this for our students who moved from a different country.
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? Students thought about navigation and NZ in a different way. We also tied this into Te Reo Maori Week and students understood why learning about out heritage is important.
Awesome kit, students were really engaged and loved the hands on element with the what's in the bag.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? By students having multiple opportunites to portray the different characters they were able to switch their viewpoints - we had lots of really interesting ";in character"; discussions with each other and was enthusiastically recieved by the students.
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? The kit made me personally more aware and gave me a better insight into New Zealand history. I had never tried to use drama as a way of teaching perspective before and is something I would definately do again.
This was a great unit that integrated perfectly with our term topic of Belonging. The class really enjoyed getting into character and exploring the different view points.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? The use of drama allowed my students to understand multiple perspectives and really put themselves in the shoes of others.
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? This kit was eye opening for me as a teacher. As a local from the South Island I feel like I have not been exposed to NZ History like this before so I was able to learn alongside my students.
This was an excellent resource that integrated well with our belonging inquiry this term. We saw the students engaged and interested throughout the different activities with some of them wanting to further their knowledge.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? This resource encouraged a lot of deep thinking and problem solving and it was great seeing the children having deep discussions about their character yet referring to their character as ‘I’
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? As I mentioned above, used alongside the Time Machine reading resource, it was easy, fascinating and exciting when the students were able to learn about their characters more in depth through the journal stories.
I thought the kit was brilliant and tied in nicely with our reading resource: Time Machine which covered the exact same characters!! Unfortunately, COVID interrupted us twice and we were unable to complete it
