How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? This was the best aspect about the kit. It took a while for them to get the hang of being something or someone else but once they got it, the writing was great. I'll be using this again with next years class when the history element is closely aligned wi
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? It was interesting to learn through the lens of different characters/objects. Very engaging for the students and I feel they learnt about this historical event they had not heard of previously.
Great writing came from this kit. It was hard but worthwhile in the end.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? As I mentioned above, we didn't get to use this kit to it's full capacity and see it through, however, if anything it has given me a fresh perspective and the motivation to use it to inform the way I teach it next year. Thank you for yet another great kit
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? This was a fresh angle to take on teaching NZ history that was exciting and engaging for both students and teachers alike!
This was a great resource and a refreshing way to teach NZ history. The students loved guessing what was in the pack and then the reasons behind why they were included. Sadly we started, then we stopped, then we resumed and then we put the side due to the 2 lockdowns and many disruptions we faced over the last two terms.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? We had some active conversations about the stories we are told and who writes history? And does it make a difference? The short answer the students came up with is that you need to collect a variety stories to create the whole picture just like in our res
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? When teaching New Zealand History I see the importance of searching for a variety views. This may not be easy at times but a more valuable experience for the students.
We found this resource amazing. The students were engaged and shocked that history may not be as accurate a telling of the story as they thought. The museum items were a hit and being able to plot the stories from everyones point of view a valuable experience. We had more than enough work for the term and many discussions around the narratives we are told.

How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? This kit made me realise even more that misunderstandings between the cultures has had a major impact on a lot of our history. I need to ensure that we take care to view our history from all sides and to build an understanding of what happened, who was th
Enjoyed this kit a lot. The perspective aspect provided excellent discussion points for the class as they pieced together who was where. I integrated this with our reading for the term which was based around NZ History. Our first 2 journal stories were about the first Kuri into NZ (L2) and Tupaia (L3). My lower level readers got a huge kick when they were able to teach their peers about the cloak and why it was so important. We haven't quite finished with the museum pieces yet because of a busy term but the learning and engagement thus far has been fabulous. Couldn't be happier with the kit.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? In hindsight, I would have loved to do this kit a little later in the year so the students would be more confident and comfortable getting up an acting with one another to really show the different perspectives and how they interlinked with expression
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? It is so important for us to be teaching our history - the kids loved connecting with the past and bringing in their own stories from hime to share with us and how they connected to the Tuia 250 kit
Amazing kit - adapted it a little to suit our classroom, and worked it in with map reading skills etc. Some wonderful writing prompts came from it and furthered our research skills

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? By having to assume the role of characters from the narrative they had to put themselves in the shoes of Maori and I think many realised just how unfair things have been for Maori.
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? It was much more fun than previous attempts.
I loved this kit. The resources were really engaging for students. The videos with the museum we’re excellent. I think it really helped my students gain a better understanding of those early encounters between Maori and the British.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? Because it asked kids to discuss where they were at a certain time and in a certain place they were easily able to see how each perspective was different. There were a few 'ah' moments.
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? It gave me the resources and information at hand rather than me going to find them. The context was interesting and engaging.
A great resource. The kids got a real sense of the time and context using the resources. The learning tasks were appropriate to the level and the teacher instructions were a great way to follow through the unit. Thank you.
