How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? My students already have a strong foundation on understanding from multiple perspectives however I felt like they were able to be more specific and ask more detailed questions due to the prompts.
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? I enjoyed all the creative elements to the kit, I've taken this creative perspective on for more of my writing resources , making them far more visual and inviting for students.
Amazing resource and opened a lot of questions up for our learners.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? It was great to use the learning from this kit - when real life events would occur.
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? We need to look at all sides of the story.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? We had previously looked at our own stories pre covid as a prequel to this so the students were able to fall back on those and consider the different view points of their own background.
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? I enjoyed the more ";hands-on"; and interactive approach to teaching the subject with a class who has a significant number of students with learning difficulties. I would love to be able to adapt many other NZ History resources to follow a similar format.
This has been a fantastic kit to use in our classroom, it was very thought provoking and connected well to the BLM discussions which were happening at the time we finally got started. Apologies for the lateness of this review.

How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? It has expanded my knowledge and built on my questions.
The tamariki loved this piece of learning, as for many of our students this was unknown knowledge and learning. With so many migrant students they loved this because they had no idea about this. They loved it and extended their own learning.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? In previous years, I have been a part of research projects through Otago Uni which were about critical multiliteracies but I have often found it hard to put that work into practice. This kit enabled me to do exactly that - to cause and enable rich discuss
My class loved this kit. The mystery items were wonderful and we had great discussions about how they all fitted together into one story and about how that story has more versions than most of us realise. Even small details like the potato/kumara (they weren't sure what it was initially!) led to wonderings about the journey and role in history of both those vegetables. The discussions about individual versus collective responsibility for historic (and current) events were excellent. Overall, kits like this are just great for causing thinking and some pretty deep, rich discussions.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? It was quite helpful as our kids already have perspectives that have been developed over time so it was good to add these other ones to the mix.
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? We already have a very comprehensive Aotearoa History package that we teach over a 6 year period at our school, so it was nice to see another perspective and approach.
We weren't able to use the kit quite the way we wanted or needed too due to the COVID and lockdowns in Auckland, however enjoyed the artifacts and the perspective. Our children are in a Rumaki Reo maori class and they enjoyed having discussions about the different perspectives and experiences.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? Really well, and they liked the intro too. Lots wrote about it in their reflection for inquiry, and that it was a fav topic. A lot of them when talking about it later, talked about the various perspectives, they liked that aspect of it.
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? Added to it, and made me think about teaching it from values/perspectives which is a shift for me, so thank you for that!!!!!!!!! Also, it was fun to look at one incident rather than try to cover a big topic eg The NZ Wars!! So again, a further good idea
We LOVED this kit. We set it up by giving students a role related to a covid escapee. Some were Jacinda Adern, A. Bloomfield, the escapees sick mum, a supermarket worker etc, etc. The students got into 'same role' groups and discussed how they felt, then got into mixed groups and discussed the sutuation and shared the various perspectives of all affected by a person isolating from a facility. They quickly recognised the different perspectives and attitudes of the different characters. The kit its self - we got the kids into pairs and they wrote and acted a quick role play of meeting and discussing the event - and we got them to introduce themselves as their character to the class. They loved all the opportunities to act a character. We extended some aspects to make it a good challenge for yr 7/8. We'd done quite a bit on Te Tiriti and Aotearoa history beforehand so this was a natural progression (back in time). We'll definitely do it again, especially as we now know what to do!! Just need a different introduction next time (we sincerely hope!).

What an incredible kit the As I Saw It has been. Our student engagement has been extremely high and the students have thoroughly enjoyed themselves and the learning opportunities that have arisen. We really appreciate the extension you gave us with the second lockdown we couldn't complete it by the beginning of September. Attached are some photo's from both Cheree Cowsill's and my own class - we have worked collaboratively on them. I've had a student teacher working in our classroom also who has enjoyed the unit. We look forward to the next challenge! Thank you very much.
