How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? It made them aware of the fact that we don't always see things as they happen and our memory can be a bit fuzzy in terms of recalling facts and what we think we saw, or what we want to have seen.
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? There is a lot to learn and research but the different perspectives are important to teach to give a wider range of experiences to our students. I enjoyed the links. I often worry about verifying the information so as not to mis-represent our history.
The hook for the kit was a lot of fun for the kids and gave them a bit of real world perspective. There was a lot of information to take in with the cards but it was very relevant to the students being able to engage with our early Maori history.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? Cultural perspective was something we discussed in depth, as noted above. Having discussions about what was undertaken in one culture and not understood by another culture were valuable in having students develop their own understanding. We also looked at
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? It hasn’t so much changed it as it gave me artefacts to assist in teaching that there is more than one side when considering an historical event. I have always taught history encouraging both sides of an event to be looked at but using the character cards
I loved the resource as a whole even though we did not get a chance to use it completely. I am hoping to get back to it next Term and set up the museum exhibits. It was great for having the kids consider story telling from a range of perspectives and the bias that history can have placed on it. Understanding early interaction between Māori and European was also a definite plus for the students. Some exceptionally rich, deep conversations were the result. Showing the students career opportunities within anthropology and archaeology was also great - an area our daughter studied that students often do not consider as an option. The how do they know questions that eventuated were great. It is a resource that I will be using again as it was such an eye opener for the students. Thank you so much for such a rich resource - always a pleasure to see and use these kits. Ngā mihi nui.

Hi team, the kit was one of the most exciting things we have done in the classroom to date! As a BT it was slightly confusing to follow the planning initially but once I began to unpack the learning and adapt it to my class the students loved it! It was the highlight of the term! Ill attach some photos below. This took most of the term and we even turned our classroom into a museum for other classes to pop in and see. We then reflected on it and our students all couldn't get enough of it so much that the learning trickled home and parents even mentioned it! Definitely recommend!! Lots more photos where those came from.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? Some students found aspects very challenging given their knowledge shared at home or presented in the media.
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? It was definitely eye opening and there are some aspects I have researched further for my own understanding.
Some aspects definitely needed more time to unpack for this particular class. I thoroughly enjoyed developing my own knowledge!

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? Can't answer yet as we haven't done yet.
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? I would like to build in more opportunities for different people's perspectives to be considered by students.
Fantastic kit! Am holding off to use it til term 4, due to fitting it with topic, but really excited about it. I feel that the artefacts and historical content are amazing for us teachers to learn from. I love the fact that it incorporates different perspectives - such an important aspect of considering history in a balanced way. As always, the kit has been made up with real attention to engagement and fun for students.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? Very supportive. The kit provided opportunities for teaching multiple perspective that continued to different areas of their learning and behaviours. At the time, there was a need to discuss concerns around rumours and online bullying. The kit emphasised
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? A great deal for me and students. I researched further into the life of Tupaia because it was the first time I've heard or learnt about him. The resources that supported this study made it easier to teach from a Pacific perspective.
Fatastic kit. My year 7-8 enjoyed it. They were fascinated with the individual items where some were familiar to them and others they had to research how they were used. The character cards were visually appealing and it supported critical thinking about their lives 250 years ago. I found the teacher's planning detailed and helpful too. It guided me well throughout the journey and I've integrated it to our theme 'Navigators of the Pacific'. Students were so empowered by the life of Tupaia as one of their ancestors. Thank you for creating a historic and educational kit. We appreciate it!

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? Some excellent discussion came from this. It did take a lot of going back to the character cards and asking questions to get students to think more deeply.
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? It was really interesting to look at our local history, some of the students had done this last year but we were able to look at the ideas in more depth.
This is a great kit! It created a lot of discussion and we are still working on aspects of it. It was fantastic for us as it is part of our local curriculum. We used it as part of our writing programme.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? Kids had to listen and not be judgmental about what others were saying. They had to show respect and understand that everyone can have a different view of things. Some thought emotions can play a factor in perspectives and that sometimes the majority pers
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? When I do ANZAC, I always choose to take the kids on a Maori Battalion journey as my dad was in C Company and by the time they get to year 5/6, they have usually done all the other things. So looking at NZ History is something I have been keen to do - eve
I liked the kit but think it would have worked better for us if it was earlier in the year. Covid lockdown also caused issues as we were trying to play catch up with other things as well. There was loads of information for kids to explore and I think even some parents learned something new.
