How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? We already use multiple perspectives to view an event or issue. This was another opportunity to provide students with skills in viewing issues in a rich and more meaningful way.
This was a rich and fantastic learning experience for our students. The students loved the link to artefacts and visual images that helped them learn about important New Zealand history. Additionally, they loved taking ownership of creating their own museum display for the Voyage to Aotearoa Tupaia and the Endeavour.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? Each team of students got a particular character and they had to talk about what their character saw, heard and what they were doing. They then had to buddy up with another group and connect things that were similar until we could get the big picture. The
I really enjoyed using this kit in my year 3/4 class and am definitely keen to use it again with my class next year and go more in depth. The students liked seeing and hearing about how everyone who was there had a slightly different recollection of what happened that day. They were able to connect this to things that happen in their own lives like things going missing. They enjoyed using the maps which was a great tie in with the learning we have been doing in maths - made it an authentic learning experience in a curriculum area.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? The students were able to put themselves in the shoes of those in the past and identify differences if opinions and how things can get lost in translation.
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? Really brought the history to the forefront and provided opportunities to explore other aspects of our unique history.
What a fantastic learning experience our tamariki were given with this kit. There was excellent time to examine the important history. The students loved taking ownership of creating their own museum display for the Voyage to Aotearoa Tupaia and the Endeavour

My students thoroughly enjoyed it. We enjoyed how the history covered the character profiles. Also, they enjoyed discussing how it was from then to now. They were also fascinated with all the artefacts that was enclosed with the kit. My students also enjoyed displaying their work and also following where each character started their journey to completing their journey. I would like to extend my sincere thanks to all the work that went in to produce this amazing resource. Thank you too, for all the planning and background information. The students also did their own inquiry. I have shared how they displayed the classroom with your resources.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? The character cards and the items gave lots of opportunities for the students to discuss the person and find their location on the map. They made up discussions that they thought the characters might have and shared them with the rest of the group. It was
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? Yes, I think the approach was varied and could be adapted to any year level. We chose to go more indepth with the history and linked it to readings from School Journals and reference books on the same subject.
This was a brilliant resource to introduce how history is recorded. Our Year 7 and 8 students were highly engaged. Groups of students took on a character and explained events from their perspective. The students found that the characters overlapped and interacted with each other.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? This idea is still something they struggle with as We have a class of year 4and 5s (many year 4s) with very low maturity. They found it easier to find the common threads between stories than the different perspectives.
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? This kit has provided new ways of teaching history. Bring life to it! The students get to live it and then be part of presenting their learning which they are always so proud of. This kit made teaching NZ history achievable, bite sized and fun.
Fabulous resource! The teachers even tried the ship biscuits, much to the students disgust! I think this learning will stick with our students for the rest of their lives and has ignited a huge amount of curiosity within them for Aotearoa history - as it has with their teachers. Our class really enjoyed incorporating drama to supplement this resource which helped us really get to know each person from this interaction.
