How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? There is more than one view of the past
What an amazing kit. We learnt so much about New Zealand's past. It was eye opening. The children engaged with the material and were able to talk about their learning. Thank you so much for a well put together kit.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? Has strengthened students ability to think about different points of view and able to apply this thinking in multiple settings, e.g., personal situations, literacies, disputes etc. A highlight has been the way for learners to be more open to their peers p
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? NZ History is such an important part of our nation. Prior to this kit arriving, I would say that I would teach the Treaty of Waitangi at the beginning of the year and myths and legends. This kit has changed my view in being able to offer a richer and deep
Nga mihi School Kit! Another great kit to help tell our nations story. So many great resources - all in the kit! My tamariki enjoyed exploring the items that were used to provoke their wonderings prior to using the kit programme. The strong link to points of view helped students establish their own views on perspectives.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? As they were each a different character and they learnt their side it made comparing perspectives and seeing other points of view much easier in a very engaging way. Due to covid we have not managed to fully complete the kit yet.
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? It was a very engaging way of teaching my students about NZ history, definitely a way in which they will not forget this particular piece of history.
Students really enjoyed stepping into their characters shoes and discussing and comparing what they knew with others. It did take a while for me to unpack the sequencefor teaching, but once I did it became pretty straight forward.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? As above - it was important to understand that there were different stories and different perspectives and some times missing information.
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? I really liked how we saw the stories from different perspective and we had to question why only one story had become known. I delved into the history even more and found out more about Cooks arrival in New Zealand.
I really enjoyed the story and the cards. We worked cooperatively to construct a time line. We were interrupted by Covid and when we came back my school expected me to be working on a new inquiry topic. Will try again next year, if it fits in with our Inquiry topics. I found the unit hard to follow as the instructions weren't clear enough.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? We used this as a model when we had an incident at school where someone ate someones else's pie from the warmer. We used a time line and recorded where everyone was and what they were doing. It turned out our principal had eaten the pie which was an unexp
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? It was great to approach this topic looking at the perspectives of all involved (maori, european, tahitian) and for children to see there can be more than one telling of a story depending on who/where you were. This linked in so well to explanations of th

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? it was great, students enjoyed the hands on approach with the resources, and being able to discuss their own viewpoints was rewarding, as those who usually do not speak up were able to.
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? I believe it was a great way to get students thinking about our history and it enabled me as the teacher to use a wonderful resources that would not rock the boat as one may say.
I thoroughly enjoyed this kit. The students were engaged and really like comparing past lives with their own. We also were able to create ourselves as those who had come before us and discuss what are some of the challenges our ancestors went through and how does it compare to society today.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? YES! Our kids really found it hard to view an event through a different lens so this kit helped with that that.
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? Teaching our tamariki how our country got to here it is today is so important. By gaining a better (and more well rounded) understanding of our history helps them form their own ideas and opinions on the future for NZ.
Great kit. We really enjoyed it. Possibly the coolest 'aha' moment came when they realised that even though they had all witnessed exactly the same event that they all saw it 'differently' and had a slightly different perspective of what had occurred. This has transferred into they life in many different ways and is making them more aware and understanding of others.
