How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? it was great, students enjoyed the hands on approach with the resources, and being able to discuss their own viewpoints was rewarding, as those who usually do not speak up were able to.

How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? I believe it was a great way to get students thinking about our history and it enabled me as the teacher to use a wonderful resources that would not rock the boat as one may say.

“I thoroughly enjoyed this kit. The students were engaged and really like comparing past lives with their own. We also were able to create ourselves as those who had come before us and discuss what are some of the challenges our ancestors went through and how does it compare to society today.”

How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? I was looking forward to using this kit to make the link between our past and the present with Food Technology students but have not been able to do that as yet.

“I haven't been able to use it fully. I would love to have but have had significant personnel upheaval in my department (Foods) this year.”

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? Students could get a real understanding to there being many angles to a story depending on where you view it from. Was a great insight and allowed them to want to investigate others ideas more.

How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? This kit made the process so much easier as it was full of resources.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? The use of different persons helped the students to understand that there were differing viewpoints. This linked nicely with our inquiry work.

How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? It’s certainly a thought provoking resource. It gave my students and me a whole new perspective on New Zealand history.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? This kit gave students the opportunity to work and learn together. The understanding that there is always more than one side to a story is key learning both when examining the history of our country but also in their own lives.

How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? While we always teach NZ history at the beginning of the year this unit gave me the opportunity to reflect on this and think about how to teach this to my class more effectively.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? Having individual peoples stories mapped out on the cards allowed students to piece the story together. This was a great process for them to be able to see the viewpoints of the different characters. setting up the objects by being sent by the Auckland Mu

How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? It has allowed me a different lens to look through new perspectives of teaching history and to consider the story from many people's vision.

“This was a wonderful, deep learning kit. It served so many purposes and the students were able to learn about perspectives, opinions and facts, New Zealand history and geography. They were able to look into a diverse New Zealand culture and job occupations. Students were motivated and engaged with their learning.”

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? Good. Although they found the timeline difficult as there was lots of crossing over of times between characters.

How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? Was great lesson to teach different perspectives of people. It taught me to look at two sides of the story.

“My students really liked the practical side of putting stickers on the maps. They also liked the items that went with each character as it was tangible to them. Not all students got to create a museum exhibition due to high numbers in class.”
