How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? By realising although we may all be looking at the same object we each have our own bias that we bring with us on how it is viewed.
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? Was already interested but seeing it in action with students made me realise how important it is to teach NZ History.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? As they delved into their characters they soon saw that different perspective and viewpoints were coming into play, within the story. There were some very interesting discussions, and a lot of careful listening to others' points of view.
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? It is so important that both sides (or more) of a story are represented in any study of New Zealand history. The idea of under and over representation was one that the students hadn't really considered important, prior to this study. It has reminded me of
The girls became engaged very quickly in the whole subject of NZ history, and looking at things from several points of view. We have not quite finished the topic yet due to me being away ill for several weeks, but they are enjoying learning about this period of time in New Zealand's history. It is a story that many of them were unaware of in any great detail, especially when thinking of BOTH sides of the story involved in New Zealand's history.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? The cards and the learning experiences carefully provided opportunities for the students to discuss and sequence the event, considering what each person might have seen, and use evidence to support their ideas.
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? The way that the participants in the event became accessible by becoming accessible characters made the event more engaging for the students. It really provided an opportunity for the students to be able to think through an event from different perspectiv
This kit was a thoroughly enjoyable and learning experience for the students in my class. They were challenged and engaged with having to make inferences in order to create a timeline and understand the sequence of events. This was developed further by the high interest objects associated with each of the characters. I will definitely re-use the content of this kit in the future - it was a highly engaging and motivational set of experiences that introduced different perspectives linked to a developing critical thinking in history.

How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? It has made teaching NZ history a lot easier for both the teacher and the students learning
This is an amazing resource and even more amazing that it was free. At the kura I work at we are given our science and social science topics- school wide. What I loved about this kit was that it fit with one of our term topics. HOWEVER, due to Covid we had to change our planning and the kit was not accessable to me. It also did not fit with our changed inquiry topic. I am planning on using this in the future though. And I love working with school kit to achieve awesome things.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? It was great. Students enjoyed learning about Tupaia and his role in creating a good relationship between Maori and Cook's crew.
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? It has made me ensure I am not 'lazy' with the knowledge I search for, that is: to seek for other perspectives not just the most well known or well recorded. Seeking the other stories and perspectives on that moment in history.
The ideas and information provided in this kit gave me a great deal of knowledge and understanding of NZ First Encounters. This gave me the confidence to allow me to be creative and adapt the activities and outcomes to suit my class. I learnt a great deal myself and as a New Zealander felt a bit ashamed to not be as knowledgeable on our own history. Teaching the idea of seeing history from different perspectives is really important and this was the main idea taken by my students.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? My tamariki really got that history is written by people, and it's woven of points of view, and that not all those points of view have been represented in official History.
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? I can see how using the people more as characters is really engaging, and that relating it to current world events also helped students take an interest.
What an amazing kit! We loved the resources in the kit and especially the reality aspect of the museum part of the kit... Very cool. Here are some photos of the class exploring the character cards.

To Whom It May Concern Unfortunately due the lockdowns we have had and the need for changing of our long term plans, I was unable to implement the kit with my class. I apologies for this. I reviewed the contents and was excited but as mentioned we had to change our term plans to cater for the lockdown with a modified version of what we needed to cover. I am holding onto the kit in the hope that I can implement it in the near future. I will not be able to do this during this Term or the next. Apologies for that. Regards Anna
