How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? Added to what we'd already been discussing.
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? Used to supplement our TUIA250 studies. Another great resource that the kids enjoyed.
Great cards, great idea, but probably a bit advanced for the abilities of my Y5/6 class. I had to lead them most of the way. The concentration and ability to 'pay respectful attention to others and actually think' part was challenging! Not your fault SK! Now that I've taught it once, I'm looking forward to doing a better job with my next class.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? My students have shown themselves to be more accepting of each other and there differences.
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? It was a great model of how you can look at things from a variety of viewpoints.
Thank you so much for this kit we have spent a lot of time exploring the story and tracking where the items are from and working out their significance. It was great to see how the children related to the different perspectives.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? The visuals (character cards) with the description about each was great and really caught the students' interest. They loved seeing the items that matched the character cards and got really excited when they realised!! The interactive nature of the whole
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? Yes!! Coupled with the exhibition at the museum (that I went to - but not the kids) it was an education for me too!!
An eye opening educational resource that challenged our 'Captain Cook' perspective. Seeing it from a different point of view was great. Learning about Tupaia was awesome, I cannot believe I had never heard of him before. Pretty sure Tupaia should have got more credit in history books!!

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? Really helped students the visualize the concept of different perspectives with the character cards. This kit prompted students to have difficult conversations.
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? With NZ history becoming a compulsory subject the importance of getting all sides of that history especially when lots of that history is in oral stories. We need to make sure we don't just teach what we can read from the time.
This was a great resource that led the teacher and the students on a journey through history that we knew little about at the start. The items sparked so much interest and engagement from the start and carried on with the maps and character cards. This resource was great to use for writing and even inspired students to get out library books about the first landings in New Zealand.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? By having hands on things to look at, touch, and talk about.
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? It hasn't changed, it has just given me more information
My class really enjoyed learning about aspects of our history that they weren't aware of. Most of them had no idea about what Tuia250 meant or even about the events that occurred. It was great that it was a current event, had videos, live streaming and was talked about on the news so it added a lot of relevance to their learning and understanding. Having topics like this are a great way to look at NZ history in a way that is more than just google or books in the library. Thanks for putting it all together and giving my students a new learning opportunity

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? Started with a setup, a teacher they know likes to ";borrow"; snacks from my lunch and went from there. from outrage to ambivalence, from ";I was there but saw nothing"; to eagle-eyed and noted everything. To then see it applied to history and realise o
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? I have always wanted to see a truly kid-friendly version of the Michael king History of New Zealand so that our Tamariki can immerse themselves in their own history and its stories. This kit and others this year have started to make this desire come true.
When you pack a kit away to revisit next year, with a group of students who engaged with the kit this year, you know there is depth to it. We will use it again next year in our learning circles as a prompt to begin discussions around ";incidents"; where there are multiple eyewitnesses and points of view. The kids loved the factoids and the way the history the ";sort-of"; knew was in fact quite different to that which they could find by digging deeper. We searched out https://www.allenandunwin.com/browse/books/childrens/The-Adventures-of-Tupaia-Courtney-Sina-Meredith-and-Mat-Tait-9781988547145 and that took the learning even further (another book i will revisit) as well as the fantastic Curiousity Cards https://natlib.govt.nz/schools/teaching-and-learning-resources/teaching-tools-resource-guides/curiosity-cards-for-inquiry

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? We related this to incidents in the playground and what others may see or hear. That we can never assume we know the whole situation, especially those who 'erupt'. That we all need to support.
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? It has reinforced the importance to clarify with children their perspectives and never assume. I also loved the activities and the way they engage the students.
You guys always manage to plan for amazing kits! The children loved learning about perspectives, NZ history and were always so engaged!

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? They learnt what this meant and truly found meaning in perspectives.
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? I LOVED it, so did the children. I'd love something else to be made just like this.
I teach in an ILE with another teacher. We have 60 students in our class together. This resource was absolutely amazing! We linked it into our writing and inquiry and the children loved it. The way it all worked with reading the points of view and then putting together the story was truly awesome and captured everyone's attention.
