Loved it! Used as a part of our Social Science unit for ‘footprints of the past’ as well as in literacy with persuasive writing and information reports. Kids loved learning about something new and from different perspectives! Found it great for examples of artifacts, also!

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? It's the beginnings of empathy and learning about forming opinions based on having all the information.
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? We will use this kit in 2020 as well as there are so many valuable teaching points. This gives us the opportunity to have deeper and richer discussions around Waitangi Day too and not do the same old things.
This is probably the biggest lesson from this kit. It's good for students to explore opposite points of view and learn to see things from other people's set of eyes.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? Students did understand and were able to discuss that people saw and heard things differently and how this happens in the school environment frequently so they could relate.
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? History of NZ is important but for these students probably baby steps with our local community.
I struggled with this kit. Unfortunately I found it difficult for my students even my good readers. I actually found it difficult to start off and this didn't help. We did get through parts of it, looking at where people were when the event happened but that was about all.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? We have a very diverse school so this kit was perfect for helping us all see the world from others' perspectives.
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? Feel I have more knowledge now and more resources to share with my learners.
This kit was AMAZING! I have a class of year 5-8 in a dual medium school. Have used Tamsin Hanley's Critical Histories resources previously, and this kit fitted perfectly into prior learning.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? The students found the concept of multiple perspectives quite hard to contemplate to begin with. This kit enabled them to take their time to focus on an event from the different points of view and understand that we need to do this with all historical eve
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? The idea that history is told from a single perspective is a powerful one. I will make a point of trying to look at historical events from all sides involved from now on.
A great kit to use with Intermediate students. Very thought provoking and informative for the students, allowing them to interact with history from a different point of view

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? Having a number of different characters to bring perspectives alive was very valuable for the historical scenario. In addition the introduction of the unit by creating an event of our own was hugely beneficial. It has been very useful in helping the child
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? As a History graduate this was a wonderful opportunity to teach kids about the nature of history as a series of perspectives, by using a real context and a fun, interactive method.
This is a very important resource - both for the revision of the teaching of NZ history and for the teaching of history as detective work using multiple perspectives. The literacy level was a little challenging for many of my children (Y5) and some were perplexed by the fact that their character didn't see anything. However, it was easy to illustrate their character's experience through their own experience in our own earlier 'staged event'.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? By having hands on things to look at, touch, and talk about.
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? It hasn't changed, it has just given me more information
My class really enjoyed learning about aspects of our history that they weren't aware of. Most of them had no idea about what Tuia250 meant or even about the events that occurred. It was great that it was a current event, had videos, live streaming and was talked about on the news so it added a lot of relevance to their learning and understanding. Having topics like this are a great way to look at NZ history in a way that is more than just google or books in the library. Thanks for putting it all together and giving my students a new learning opportunity

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? Started with a setup, a teacher they know likes to ";borrow"; snacks from my lunch and went from there. from outrage to ambivalence, from ";I was there but saw nothing"; to eagle-eyed and noted everything. To then see it applied to history and realise o
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? I have always wanted to see a truly kid-friendly version of the Michael king History of New Zealand so that our Tamariki can immerse themselves in their own history and its stories. This kit and others this year have started to make this desire come true.
When you pack a kit away to revisit next year, with a group of students who engaged with the kit this year, you know there is depth to it. We will use it again next year in our learning circles as a prompt to begin discussions around ";incidents"; where there are multiple eyewitnesses and points of view. The kids loved the factoids and the way the history the ";sort-of"; knew was in fact quite different to that which they could find by digging deeper. We searched out https://www.allenandunwin.com/browse/books/childrens/The-Adventures-of-Tupaia-Courtney-Sina-Meredith-and-Mat-Tait-9781988547145 and that took the learning even further (another book i will revisit) as well as the fantastic Curiousity Cards https://natlib.govt.nz/schools/teaching-and-learning-resources/teaching-tools-resource-guides/curiosity-cards-for-inquiry
