How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? This is a great way to start the discussion around New Zealand History and the idea that no one way was right, or one perspective was right. The artifacts give a real look into life then and help connect to the past.
We loved ";As I Saw It"; as it gave us a different perspective on events in history. It made us think about how different peoples prior knowledge would affect how they saw each situation. We loved receiving the ";real"; artifacts and being able to touch them. It made researching them and talking about them more real.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? We did an activity where the learners were put into different groups, and were given one of each characters cards to read. A lot of interesting conversations came out of this lesson. The students were thinking and talking about the miscommunication and st
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? There are always multiple perspectives to different events in our NZ history. This kit was useful as it allowed us to thoroughly explore those different perspectives. This kit has reminded me to always keep in mind the multiple views and perspectives with
It was amazing to see a kit that reflected a part of NZ history, as well as the multiple perspectives during that event. I work in a FLE, so 90 odd students got to view the mini museum that I had set up. However only those who I work with for iExplore(inquiry) had the privilege of learning about it.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? It certainly made them look at, think and discuss things from a different perspective from theirs, which may have been quite blinkered at times. also being rural, students have very little experience of some of the ideas.
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? It can be tricky when preconceived ideas and opinions come from home about things that happened a long time ago!
Some tricky subjects to talk about but worth having a go - students have come up with some great thoughts and ideas.

How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? I think it has changed my perspective as well as my classes perspective - that what is happening today and in our generation is just as important as when Captain Cook was around.
We really loved looking at this kit as a class. It generated some powerful class discussion.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? Having the character cards was a great way to slowly introduce more information and perspectives into the story. Each time we learnt about another character the student's ideas on what they thought happened were challenged or changed. It got them to look
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? This kit gave me the confidence to teach a subject I had no prior knowledge of. It is such an important event that was fascinating to explore. History is usually told from one ";main"; perspective - so being able to look into this from the viewpoints of s
This kit is fantastic! The research and work that went in to creating it is very much appreciated! NZ history can be a hard subject to teach when looking for resources and reliable information to relay to students. I have often found conflicting information and did not know how to approach the Tuia250 subject. My class loved learning about NZ history in a way they had not done before - they enjoyed reading the different perspectives on the character cards and seeing how they all worked together to tell one big main story. I really liked how the artifacts made the subject seem more ";real"; - the artifacts alone generated some fantastic discussions about the technology and resources used back then. I will be using this kit in class ever year - I believe it addresses an important topic in NZ history that is not often discussed and explored in the classroom. The concept of multiple perspectives has also resulted in a positive change for the class in terms of their behaviour towards their peers and resolving conflict. They have been quick to identify that there are often many different views of what happened and have been more open to listen and hear everyone out before ";jumping on the bandwagon"; or just agreeing with their friends blindly.

How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? The children are so interested when they have hands-on activities / resources that make it real for them. I was amazed with the lack of knowledge they began with and the questions that it prompted. To go forward, we need to know where we came from and thi
Thank you so much for this amazing kit! The students learned so much and were fascinated with the items they had to research. This led on to learning about Parihaka and further New Zealand history. It was fantastic for the students to realise how the same event can be seen in multiple perspectives and therefore be seen so differently.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? My students have really grown in this aspect - One student was reading a book called ";Cook's Cook"; and looked up with tears in her eyes having read the page that deals with Tupaia's death - the empathy and emotions felt for these significant people real
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? I loved the support the kit gave - teaching New Zealand history is so important and I have a much better feel on finding different approaches to teaching it.
This was a fantastic kit - we collectively learned so much - we wrote poems and read about various characters - the students were astonished, as we explored books and online historic narratives, to discover that these were real people.
