How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? The story cards were amazing, they couldn't believe how the same event could be seen, heard and felt so differently depending on where and who you were. It opened up so many amazing discussions about life then, life today, the effect of the Treaty of Wait
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? I learned so much and I loved thinking about the different perspectives of the humans involved. It is such an important and under represented part of NZ history and so important to teach understanding and fairness.
This was an amazing kit, such strong perspectives. Children very quickly grasped the key concepts. Super engaging activities. My class loved looking at the 'relics' and discussing what life was like. They developed strong opinions about colonisation and fairness. Amazing pieces of writing were completed, narrative, diaries, letters, recounts, research. fantastic parent engagement in the topic as it fell during the recreation of the Endeavour. I am so impressed with the learning my children did.

How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? It gave clear perspectives of both points of view. The detective approach was interesting for the students. We really enjoyed the kit.
Our class, Room 5 really enjoyed learning about Captain Cook and the kit, AS I saw it. Responses from the students: Student 1: “I really enjoyed it. It was really helpful to me because I could actually see it happening in real life”. Student 2: “ It was really fun because you got to see what they had, comparing it to what we have now”. Student 3: “It was amazing because we learnt the history of Captain Cook and the points of view of the Maori and the British”.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? The more perspectives they knew, they more they could talk about it. This helped to open them up to the idea that you can never really have the full story.
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? To be mindful that we are not always telling the whole story (well at least even multiple perspectives of it)
The Tribe (Year 5-6) were so engaged with this kit. It led to great questions about our history and what we currently value as a country. Students loved seeing the 'REAL' artifacts from the museum and using their thinking to create exhibition cards.

However, I did not know these particular stories and learnt so much alongside the kids. This will be a kit that I continue to use in the future as I feel that it is a

Charlie-I liked how in this kit it the stories seemed completely different to each other in the beginning, but as each card was read out the pieces started to fall into place. The items where super realistic, and I was amazed that there was a real biscuit and real marmalade Austen-I really loved this kit it changed my perspective of new zealand history I was never really interested in NZ history Now I love It i liked putting all of the stories together and finding out where the people went on the map it is a 5 outta 5 I loved it was the best

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? They found it fascinating that whilst they had previously only seen the European views expressed and had online knowledge available easily, the new stories from Maori and Pasifika viewpoints were not so readily available or known.
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? It has helped improve my own knowledge.
An engaging and thought provoking kit which has allowed the students to recognise the need to go beyond a single perspective.
