How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? I am tangata whenua and this has empowered me to speak to the history of Aotearoa from a Maori perspective, to show our students there are always two sides to a story. My students have been invited by our local iwi to watch the fleet arrive at Rapaki Mara
The most powerful unit of work I have done with students. So much learning for me and my students, and what I have shared with my colleagues. I have a photographic essay to submit, work by the students we just have one piece of collaborative writing to complete. This will be finished on Friday.

How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? I was already really open to teaching history - I have a degree in History. This was a great way to link in different stories though.
This resource really helped launch our Tuia250 inquiry. The students really loved the interactive nature of the cards and really enjoyed learning another perspective. I've attached photos of our event to start off the unit - we had an assembly and our senior teacher asked another teacher to 'chuck us your laptop' ... it went flying and crashed into 100 pieces in front of all the students. The different stories we got out of the kids really helped them understand the perspectives.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? It was very useful as there had been a few incidents in the playground recently and if course there were many perspectives as to what a acutually happened. This made it easy to relate to the different perspectives.
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? It has made me want to explore the many other historical events both near and far around NZ.
What an awesome unit of work. This brought the history of previous events alive. Our Year 7&;8's loved exploring, listening, researching, communicating and collaborating and it was timed so well with the Tuia 250 celebrations. Thanks Schoolkit.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? We took an authentic playground issue to introduce the concept of different perspectives and then used the cards. The tamariki were intrigued and the more they heard the different stories of the characters you could see little lightbulbs switching on all
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? It has been great to have both sides. I've been much more confident and have used resources such as YouTube and documentaries more.
It took us a while to get into our kit due to a busy third term. However, we are now fully involved with it. Our tamariki are loving getting into the characters, and when they realised that all of the characters stories connected it was priceless. We haven't finished yet! They are so motivated by this kit and don't want to do much else! I will post photos as soon as possible

How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? It has given me more useful hands on tasks that the children could read and take further to imagine what life was like in the past. It had a lot of literacy ideas to use.
I have this resource and we talked about it and children liked looking at the reference cards. It is a well thought out and planned resource that had lots of valuable information that showed children and gave then an insight to things have changed and some differences we could compare and why these are different. We are lucky to have such an awesome resource that relates to New Zealand and children can make more links to these by sharing learning with whanau. (Relevant)
