How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? It was such a good way to teach it especially with so much coverage in the media. It was a real eye opener for some of my kids

How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? I studied New Zealand history at university but now I have a more well-rounded view of what really happened, from all perspectives. I have always believed that teaching history is so, so important in primary school classrooms and will continue to use this
A really insightful look into different perspectives. The class were able to carry the thinking on into other aspects of their lives as well as having a better understanding of New Zealand's ";real"; history (as one of the children put it). As usual the resources that came with the kit engaged the children well beyond what a usual unit would do. I love the way that my classes look forward to delving into then each day.

How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? With resources like this, it is a lot easier to teach this topic. It shows us the different views that groups of people had.
This kit was fantastic and allowed my students to understand a range perspectives which was great learning for them. We incorporated some drama activities with the students in role and this worked really well to broaden their understanding of NZ history.

How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? I feel I have always had a pretty balanced way of teaching NZ history (looking at things from both British and Maori perspectives) The tools were really helpful and definitely gave a very good insight into the life and the belief systems of the time.
I thought this was an excellent resource. We used it as part of our inquiry and reading programme. The cards, map and objects were a fantastic way of teaching the students empathy and to look at a situation from multiple perspectives.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? By introducing the different characters. As students became familiar with where characters were from and their surroundings-then the interactions between the two cultures could be discussed. Also the actual items were a powerful way to illustrate dif
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? It has given me a deeper understanding that there a more than one ways of looking at any situation that is written about in history!
The authentic props and colourful cards really made for a realistic experience with this historical event. Because I teach year 4 and 5 students they found the research side a little difficult and I needed to support them in this. However, the teachers guide helped me to stay on track and keep it focused in the right direction. Thanks for the videos as well as they were clear and interesting.

How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? I have always loved teaching NZ history.
We still have not quite finished this as our programme has been so ful. My class have really enjoyed working on this. They particularly liked making the connections between the characters and events. I did find some of the instructions a bit confusing.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? They were able to make sense of the fact everyone sees things differently, and make it relevant to their day to day lives. For example, when dealing with playground dramas. Everyone will have a different opinion on what they saw. They could use these fami
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? My perspective hasn't changed. History is always interesting, but it's finding the means of making it relevant and engaging for students. If teaching NZ history was this hands on and engaging for students like this KIT then it would be much easier.
This was a really great kit to teach; especially being at Mercury Bay Area School. The children were engaged from the very start, and loved listening to the stories in particular. They enjoyed piecing the story back together, and digging deeper to decode what actually happened. The conversations that were had in class were fantastic to hear as students were able to give their own opinions on the story. Piecing out museum exhibition was done by students hand, and again it helped to shape the story. Overall, it was a wonderful resource to use in this part of the country with so many links being made to local curriculum and resources.

How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? My perspective has most definitely changed with the support of this resource. It has encouraged me to research the facts, create a bi-cultural awareness in the classroom. With big celebrations like the Tuia 250 it has really encouraged me to celebrate/com
Such an excellent resource!! Room 4 - Year 5 and 6 students were so immersed in this learning. Key learning that came from this kit was the amount of writing and a massive art drive where students were asked to create 3 pieces of writing with different perspectives and then create an A4 artwork showing the 3 different perspectives using 3 different art forms, whilst relating it back to the Marlborough Sounds. The wall display looks amazing with all the topic cards and examples of student learning and understanding. We have made huge connections from this resource and were able to share that through our boat based camp in the Marlborough Sounds and make connections to the school and Marlborough theme of Tuia 250 and celebrating our past present and Future.
