How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? My perspective has most definitely changed with the support of this resource. It has encouraged me to research the facts, create a bi-cultural awareness in the classroom. With big celebrations like the Tuia 250 it has really encouraged me to celebrate/com
Such an excellent resource!! Room 4 - Year 5 and 6 students were so immersed in this learning. Key learning that came from this kit was the amount of writing and a massive art drive where students were asked to create 3 pieces of writing with different perspectives and then create an A4 artwork showing the 3 different perspectives using 3 different art forms, whilst relating it back to the Marlborough Sounds. The wall display looks amazing with all the topic cards and examples of student learning and understanding. We have made huge connections from this resource and were able to share that through our boat based camp in the Marlborough Sounds and make connections to the school and Marlborough theme of Tuia 250 and celebrating our past present and Future.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? It certainly helped students see that we all come from different places and hold views that are no necessarily the same. Multiple perspectives should be taken into account as often in it not as cut and dry as first thought.
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? After completing the school kit I would ensure all perspectives were taken into account when teaching history. It was an eye opener for students to see that you can all experience something but see things quite differently and we set up many different tas
The students of Room 16 absolutely loved working through this inquiry. We took time to research the area of Whitianga and what happened when Captain Cook and his crew arrived. When we started this school kit many of my students had little knowledge of New Zealand history so being able to look at it from multiple perspectives was quite interesting. We also took the opportunity to share what we had discovered with the two other classes in our syndicate who did not have the school kit and we organised a trip to Auckland Museum to look at the Tuia 250 exhibition. Thank you!

How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? It was a true story I had no idea about. I wonder how many more are out there. I love history and love exposing my class to it. We need to know about the past before we can go into the future.
Wow! This kit really made the students think. It was great to include NZ history in our learning and I will definitely be doing more of it. Thank you School Kit!

How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? It hasn't changed my perspective as I think this is very important anyway. However having resources like this make it engaging and easy for tamariki to u understand so therefore easier for teachers to teach.
Fantastic Kit to use in class especially as it was very local to us in Whitianga. In particular the students were really engaged in the perspectives of each character. It really gave them a sense of what happened when Cook came to Wharekaho.

Really enjoyed this kit. The kids really enjoyed the guess who themed activity. Also, we made carrot marmalade as a lead on from the kit. Thanks again for the great resources!

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? That was an interesting one - the perspectives thing. We'd already worked on historical background (and therefore worldview) of Maori and Europeans, so my students were familiar with the idea that different people react differently to the same event becau
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? We have this year started to teach NZ history using Tamsyn Hanly's Critical Histories of NZ and this has fitted perfectly with that. Thank you for such a cool resource.
I loved this kit. It was hard work working with my class to suss out the whole story, but it was well worth the effort and fitted so well with what we have been doing anyway this year in class. I've written a review with some photos added in. Find it at: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1GR22GgLLTJIOGHcaVDWObxxytpg6SbtW/view?usp=sharing

How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? It has strengthened my perspective as a first year teacher that we need to be teaching as much of New Zealand history as possible. Not just the nice parts.
My students and I loved this kit. Many of them spend their summer holidays in Whitianga and were able to really picture the events that we were learning about. They loved the resources that you gave us to use, especially the objects for our exhibits! Students became quite protective of their 'characters' and enjoyed debating 'who saw what'. As my class is quite 'boy heavy', I really appreciated this kit and how it was engaging for both the boys and girls in my class. Thank you so much for everything you do School Kit!

How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? Not being from New Zealand, I was very interested to use this kit as a stepping stone to better educate myself on the history of the country as we know it today. It has reminded me that there are many sides to a story and that all observations and perspec
My Year 4 class were so engaged during this kit, with many children asking lots of questions about what we think New Zealanders should value. The 'guess who' cards were particularly cool. I did think that some of the material was a little tricky for Year 4. The character's objects was of great interest to the class, but I think they found it difficult to get into character. This may have been a little easier for older children. We did not have time to create the exhibition in the end :(
