Which kit components were the most impactful and why? Definitely the bricks. Building these in groups and communicating while doing so was awesome.

What is the legacy this kit will leave behind on your learners? The Tamariki are still talking about the farm unit in Term 2! They have retained alot of the animal facts we learnt about and what the machines are used for on a farm.

How did the context of farming allow your learners to explore and develop literacy? Absolutely!! Through all three, written, read and spoken literacy. We did so many different writing samples using a range of figurative language, introduced similes "The pig is as pink as bubblegum"... We were able to write descriptions and also explore some imaginative writing "If i was a farmer...."

“Over this term we have done a unit on farm animals. The tamariki have had so much fun with this and have worked incredibly hard with their writing, art and more! We started off with learning different facts about different farm animals like horses, cows, sheep, pigs, chickens and goats. We used out imagination and wrote about what it would be like being a farm animal. We described what different animals looked like using some pretty awesome language and writing techniques. We did some collaborative art using our big buddies to guide us with our step by step drawing, outlining, colouring and painting. One of the favorite parts of this whole unit for the tamariki was building our lego farm set! We did this in small groups and worked really hard using our communication skills and turn taking to build some pretty awesome things! The students also got to open up their own mini packets of lego that goes with thr farm. We asked our buddy class to come back and see the finished product of our art! We are so proud of the Tamariki and all the hard Mahi they have put in!”
