Please provide 2+ examples of student voice on the kit's impact on them Lots of requests to use kit during the play based learning component of the day. Encouraged lots of discussion between students, sharing, taking turn, managing self etc. This kit was useful for an ESOL student who enjoyed locating the different animals and making the noises they made. They are now including the animal names and sounds into their stories.
Which kit components were the most impactful and why? The cardboard puzzle and the bricks - able to be creative and independent with this equipment. It has also been used with other classroom equipment - other cars and plastic animals.
What is the legacy this kit will leave behind on your learners? You don't have to prescribe to using the equipment in one way. They have dismantled some vehicles and combined them with others to create something new.

My class of Yr 0-2 have enjoyed playing with the brick farm over the year. They mainly choose to use the brick component (as this is something they can do independently) rather than using the additional activities and games. The farm machinery was built by myself and my older teenage children as it was too technical and time-consuming for the 5and 6 yr olds to create independently. Sadly, in the time constraints of the school day, it is not an option to spend hours with individuals making the vehicles. The cardboard puzzle is a hit and they enjoy making it up and driving around the farm with the vehicles and making new farms with the other classroom resources we have - eg wooden blocks and plastic animals.

Please provide 2+ examples of student voice on the kit's impact on them (1) "Wow! I didn't know that!" was often said after we looked at a new aspect. (2) "So they don't need to go to the supermarket like we do." this was said after exploring what is on a farm and why i.e., milk comes from cows, eggs come from chickens
Which kit components were the most impactful and why? The hands on parts of the Bricks kit.

How did the context of farming allow your learners to explore and develop literacy? Mostly is allowed for talk. It is a NE class so oral language development is an important part of the programme. There are also number of ELL students so it was a great avenue for vocabulary building and colourful semantics work. Not to mention that lego based activities really engage them.

It was a great kit. It gave the students lots of opportunities to explore things related to farming and animals as well as building skills like following instructions and fine motor skills. They enjoyed making things and learning about different types of farm purposes i.e., cows/dairy farming, sheep, and growing vegetables. I also used some twinkle matching activities i.e., matching animals to baby animals i.e. cow/calf, sheep/lamb and ones that talk about things we get from farms i.e., milk comes from cows, eggs from chickens etc

As we are a team of five, and each of us had applied for the bricks, our tamariki had a fantastic time building worlds beyond our imagination. As each set arrived and was strategically placed, the dialogue ensured negotiation among our ākonga, a skill very much in the development stage. We are lucky enough to have a place where the Lego could remain in its different creation steps, which gave our students ownership of their projects and responsibilities. Thank you so much for making this possible.

How did the context of farming allow your learners to explore and develop literacy? We are in a town that has a strong farming focus. This allowed some students to extend their literacy skills using words they already have in their vocabulary but also gave them the opportunity to tuakana - tiena other tamariki in our rōpu that haven't come across those words/ environments before.

This was a neat kit that helped tamariki to develop oral language, promote fine motor control, build connections, encourage social skills and practise the skill of following instructions and active listening. I can see this kit helping to extend the existing lego club sets we use in the school.

What is the legacy this kit will leave behind on your learners? My students loved the farm kit. Using it alongside a real life experience was very powerful, as they learnt about the animals they would see at the farm and the names of the different baby animals. Great to be able dip in and out with the te reo language also.

The Bricks Farm provided a valuable hands-on opportunity to introduce key vocabulary to my students before our trip to Ambury Farm, Auckland. They enjoyed playing with the farm pieces, although they did find them too tricky to build by themselves, however, there was an opportunity for our Senior students to help the Juniors build them. This was valuable for all concerned, as they enjoyed building relationships and spending time together.
