How effective were the components of this kit?
Please provide 2+ examples of student voice on the kit's impact on them
Student 1: I really enjoyed the design part, I liked learning how to design a shed and a machine. Student 2: I liked learning about farm life, and how the farmers provide things to our supermarkets. I like animals too.
Which kit components were the most impactful and why?
Building the farm and farm items, and the task cards/dice games. The children loved exploring and playing these games because there were so many ways to play these games, and incorporate them into all aspects of our curriculum (Reading, Writing, Maths, and especially Topic because we were looking at change).
What is the legacy this kit will leave behind on your learners?
The learning through play aspect was a big hit with my students. This resource was used and asked for a lot. They loved being able to collect farm bricks, build up their farms and use the resources in Reading, Maths and Writing tasks.
How effective was this kit in engaging your junior learners in literacy?
How important is it to you that classroom resources are made from recyclable materials and are reusable?
How did the context of farming allow your learners to explore and develop literacy?
We used the Farm context to help us in writing stories about life on the farm from different entities - for instance the life or day of farm animals, milk tanker driver, farmer, farm dog, tractor etc. The children liked using the equipment to help plan out and imagine their farm entities better. Having the farm kit, also helped the children select farming books from the library and we used school readers about farm life to help us with inferring, predicting, summarising, financial literacy and context clues.
