Please provide 2+ examples of student voice on the kit's impact on them The kids became the teacher so they were explaining how to make the Lego to me and also to eachother. They also were problem solving together which can sometimes be hard within my school so it was great.

Which kit components were the most impactful and why? They loved the actual Lego kits because it’s hands on. Also allowed them to learn the different types of machinery and how it is used on a farm.

What is the legacy this kit will leave behind on your learners? I can now use it as an exemplar to explain they can be resilient and do hard things, they can work together and they can even read! A lot say they cannot read but a lot can by the way they used the instructions.

How did the context of farming allow your learners to explore and develop literacy? They were using different vocabulary to explain the different things on a farm and the machinery and they were explaining how it works. They also were doing a different form of reading by following instructions.

“The kids loved working and learning with the bricks. It was not only a great way to teach them but also they got the opportunity to be the teachers, help each other build with Lego and even teach me since I don’t own any Lego myself. Very collaborative and lots of team building.”

Please provide 2+ examples of student voice on the kit's impact on them I get it now I can read - when the lego car would follow the words on a big book page. Counting the pieces was also enjoyed and 'counting is real' when we were looking at them.

Which kit components were the most impactful and why? All of the bricks.

What is the legacy this kit will leave behind on your learners? Well, the fact that you get to keep the resources. I can use the lego for other learning experiences. Fantastic. And it's easy to keep in the box.

Please provide 2+ examples of student voice on the kit's impact on them 1. I have never been to a farm and now I know what a farm my look like. It is amazing how food is grown and taken to the supermarket for my family to buy. I wasn't sure where all the food came from before.2. Building the farm was a challenge and we kept going, we didn't give up. I liked inventing my conveyor belt to take the people around the farm. I enjoyed seeing things other children designed.

Which kit components were the most impactful and why? The bricks themselves, once transformed into the farm was a great stimulus for discussion and children who had not played together much started playing together. The discs helped grow children's vocabulary..

What is the legacy this kit will leave behind on your learners? The challenge of building it together and how if we collaborate we can achieve great things.

“The children and teacher were excited to receive the kit. We took quite awhile to put it together as the pieces were small and some of the instructions challenging to follow. Once we built the farm the children enjoyed it so much- playing with their friends, collaborating adventures which helped develop oral language especially vocabulary. We would like to have done it in more depth however with our own school requirements it did limit our time. Children enjoyed the technology side of designing machines, buildings etc for the farm, writing stories about adventures on the farm and the farm animals. This kit will be a highlight for children to play with throughout the rest of the year. This exposed some children to what a farm is and what one may look like.”

Which kit components were the most impactful and why? The fruit and fruit containers were really useful for teaching Maths to my new entrants. We used the fruit during group time to add, subtract, count, half etc. We still use the fruit during Maths today.

What is the legacy this kit will leave behind on your learners? That working together helps to solve problems! That sharing and communication are key to building positive relationships.

How did the context of farming allow your learners to explore and develop literacy? In my new entrant classroom we used the Lego bricks to support our ideas for writing. As mentioned above many students in my class live on a farm, therefore lots of discussion and new vocabulary was used each day. This then motivated my students to write. We also used the farm animals and fruit to learn our letter sounds.

“The Lego bricks farm was a great asset to my new entrant classroom, it provided so many learning opportunities to my students and continues to do so. As many of our families live rurally the students could relate to real-life experiences when using the Lego bricks farm. They problem-solved as they worked out how to build the Lego, they contributed and shared their ideas, and they worked together each time they used the Lego. This all helped my new entrants build a sense of belonging in their new classroom space.”
