Please provide 2+ examples of student voice on the kit's impact on them Using Countdown Bricks Farm was awesome! It helped me understand math better because we used the LEGO bricks to solve problems. The LEGO farm kit was so cool! I liked building the farm and creating stories with the animals.

Which kit components were the most impactful and why? Having the game to go along side the kit was purposeful for the children. Also gave good direction on what to do next.

The students were able to make links to their learnings about farming and the process of how our food gets from the farm to forks. Our students also enjoyed creating farm inventions using their new knowledge.”

Please provide 2+ examples of student voice on the kit's impact on them "I like how I can make my own farm and I can talk about what is in my farm and what it is used for." "My farm has some tools and I liked having the flowers to make the farm look good. I could make a farm with some of my friends in the class and share it with others.

Which kit components were the most impactful and why? I think they all were as students would come together and talk about what they had been making or wanting to make and shared discussions would occur. From these discussions, students would role play and imagine what it was like having a farm. As a class, we were still able to use the kit from an 'olden day - present day' focus.

What is the legacy this kit will leave behind on your learners? The bricks farm has been very helpful to support students understanding of changes e.g. do we still have this tool or machine today. They have the ability to learn through hands-on play having discussions with each other. The teacher is not the 'font of knowledge' - students are learning and extending on their prior knowledge so they come away knowing a lot about farming both from the past and the present.

Students oral language was extended as they could listen to words and phrases from other students and some were able to link to the bricks they had at home and talked about why it is important to have the animals in a particular place on their farm. Students got a lot of exposure to new language. We looked at what farming looked like for early Maori and what farming looks like today.

“The Bricks Farm Kit was a 'hit' with the students. As a class, we were able to link it to our Inquiry which was about farming very early on and comparing what it is like today. We had class discussions about what a 'farm' would look like for the Maori and what tools etc they would have had compared to the tools available now.”

These were things they often reflected on. Ākonga found themselves using what they had learnt from the kit when playing with the brick set (vocab etc).

Which kit components were the most impactful and why? The bricks and building the sets.

What is the legacy this kit will leave behind on your learners? Team work and sharing the brick set. Many Ākonga have had farm experiences and connecting the learning in the kit, the brick set and their experiences was quite powerful.
