What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? We used the action plan to think about how our existing class culture and Treaty could be improved as we go into 2020, and what might change and what we might keep the same.
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? It probably had more impact for me to be fair, I enjoyed the journal, and it made the journey very reflective. Discussion is always good and helps to keep us all honest!
My students and I enjoyed using aspects of this kit. I read some picture books about Racism as the ignition for this kit. We are a very diverse faith based school, and therefore a lot of the discussions around racism are very much part of who we are. We will use this again at the start of 2020 because we could see how elements of our existing class treaty could be enhanced. We used old posters, and did a compare and contrast from when they were created in 2004, and created new ones to get our messages out there. Another excellent resource, thank you SchoolKit.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? I used the action plan as a guide for my own practice and also spoke with the students about the steps.
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? My year 3/4 students now compliment each other in meaningful ways (without complimenting on looks or appearance) and this has been really valuable learning for them. The pictionary game challenged some of their stereotypes and we had lots of in depth conv
I found this kit linked in really well with our school anti-bullying programme and our school values. My students really enjoyed the activities and the plan was easy to follow. My class loved working through the kit and they were really motivated and enjoyed the range of activities.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? Little as my gfroups changed to frequently in ESOL.
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? Again, little as I only see each group 30 minutes a day , 4 day per week.
Unfortunately I was not able to use this as well as I had hoped. I am an ESOL teacher and I thought it might be an opportunity for our large number of ESOL students to develop a better understanding of racism so they were more able to articulate what was happening in their world (the good and the bad). As I said unfortunately I was unable to focus my efforts as my groups changed to frequently to really develop an indepth understanding. What did please me though was their feedback saying that at school there were minimal racist incidents, and if there were, they were quickly sorted out(primary school). I can definitelt see the benfit of the kit, especially in a mainstream classroomk.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? Helped to remember to be kind and that some times we forget that people need or want to hear it. Having kind things said and accepting where people sit in our lives was a great reminder that could be used more, particularly as the year progresses.
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? It created a more open and positive environment where they were able to share kindness and hear it. It made realisations that people liked them more than they thought. Sense of appreciation was made.
This pack was full of really amazing lessons and resources. Unfortunately, this pack was not a hit with my class. Many factors have attributed to this. The demographic that makes up our school and the area that we live in made it a little hard to relate to. Although this type of thing has been in the news, it does not hit close to home enough for it to be a real impact like I had hoped. It is a touchy subject and it was hard for me to use the whole pack to its fullest potential. We did do a couple of activities. My students loved looking through influential people in their lives. We had in-depth conversations in why and how people are placed in our lives and the roles that they play in them. We also wrote really kind things to each other using the template. I altered this a bit with how we approached it, but it was nice to see the kind things that they thought about each other.

How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? This kit will be useful when setting up my classroom for next year as I can use these concepts from the start.
I have used the activities more for myself and haven't had a chance to use it with my class. It has made me think about how I recognise my students and reflect on how my class is set up.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? We looked more in depth at ethnic beliefs of those in our community and the similarities/differences in comparison to students own ethnicity. This unit highlighted the need for students to be open-minded and find out about different cultures/ethnicities
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? We developed a greater understanding of what is acceptable/unacceptable language when finding the right words to talk about the different ethnic identities in our classroom.
We thoroughly enjoyed taking part in this unit of inquiry; it followed nicely on from Tuia 250. We had already looked at our own and others cultures &; cultural practices in Term 1 but this got us thinking about the challenges some face as well as some assumptions made about culture/race.
