What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? The compliments activity, focusing on positive characteristics of your classmates, that did not draw from physical attributes, worked to get students thinking beyond the surface. The circles generated discussion around those who we consider important/ rel
The rich learning, discussion and reflection generated within my year 8 classroom as we progressed through the plan was fantastic. It complimented progress we had made with emotional literacy over the first half of the year and gave us opportunities to extend this by exploring our perceptions and different perspectives. I will be reusing much of this resource in the new year!

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? The impact of the ";I wish my teacher knew"; was huge for me. I learned so much about my students that I may have never knew. This allowed relationships to be authentic.
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? Students became aware of their own possible unconscious bias. I would heard conversations well after we had finished with the kit correcting ";accidental"; racist comments. These students will continue with this awareness for a long time.
This kit worked very well as I have diverse ethnicities in my class. As a first year teacher, it allowed me to get to know my students, it assisted the students to learn about each other and it allowed me to understand students worlds from their point of view.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? made sure that all children had a chance to share something from their culture with the other children.
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? More knowledge around other peoples cultures and greater acceptance of each other for who we are. Knowing that all of us are different and being who we are is awesome.
This kit really challenged us to change out thinking, many of us didn't realise that we assumed things about people, or that we bought into stereotypes. It was really interesting to share our thoughts on what racism is and how it has affected our lives.

I was blown away when I opened the box - stickers, compliments sheets - all kinds of treasures! I downloaded the teacher sheet and then I wondered how it all fitted together. Where was I to start? Did I photocopy parts of the teacher journal for the class to consider. To be honest, it was an amazing treasure trove of materials, but how to access it and fit it all together was a bit of a mystery to me and not particularly user friendly for a teacher trying to keep her head above water. We loved using the compliments sheets and the children loved doing that. We displayed the action cards - those that we felt we were good at, and ones that we were still to work on - turning them over as we feel we achieved them. What it did lead into was a slightly different direction - we took a tangent and decided on how we could 'Be the Change' in the world this term and the children came up with a variety of actions they could take to make the world a better place. We have organised a beach clean up (on the weekend! With their parents), we have taken up a big food bank collection and asked others to support it, we have organised to visit a Retirement Village and sing and talk to the residents. So thanks for lighting that spark!

This was the first school kit I have received. The teacher resource is great, I like the step by step information. Unfortunately, I have not used the kit yet with a student/s as I work in a health school and it did not fit in with the students I had this year. The resource is still sitting by my desk ready to trial next year.....watch this space.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? This kit tied into our school values focus on respect, and participation and contribution to community. It opened important discussions and encouraged deeper thinking about how we work together in the classroom/school/community/nationally and globally.
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? It highlighted the outlier student who has entrenched negative and racist views in regard to others. Opening up the conversations was an important step to empowering others to speak up and challenge his views.
A timely and provocative kit.
