What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? Unfortunately we did not cover the action plans - we used the kit for our Community Impact Projects - year 7/8. We spent a lot of time in the classroom for this kit and with 50+ students, many with behavioural challenges, we had to pause the kit and move
I believe that the title could be amended as I think that this kit is about so much more than racism - we began with the pictionary game which involved assumptions and stereotype assumptions around gender, gender diversity, race, culture, age etc

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? We are more aware of the way we speak about people. Very much more aware of trying not to mention how a person looks (shape, size, race, gender) but rather on the way that they behave.
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? Mostly as talking and role playing. They enjoyed the drawing people.
We liked the stereotype activities, drawing what we thought of when we heard the words dairy owner/doctor. The children found it really interesting that they had such set preconceived ideas, without really thinking it through - e.g. that a nurse could be male, that a doctor could be female. We are quite an insular small community, not exposed to many different cultures, so the children found it hard to relate to many of the activities. That's more about us and our community rather than about the School Kit you devised. I can certainly see it having more relevance in other classes I have taught in the past, in the city.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? It was a powerful provocation. It made the children think deeply and they were instantly engaged. It provided a really good foundation for the rest of our learning.
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? It really made the kids think about the world and kindness. Now my class always says ";we can't change what has happened, but we can try our best to make the world better and put positivity out there."; This was such a powerful learning experience and I p
This kit was thoughtfully made and challenged a lot of thoughts that we have in society- which I found interesting and refreshing. It was packed full of information and new ways of viewing the world.

How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? We have only used a few resources and it has helped them develop more awareness around other cultures.
Thanks, some great resources but it would be much more helpful with a proper lesson sequence and plans. It’s all a bit for vague for me, I need it to be more detailed and clearer to follow.

How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? Boosted the collaboration of the class as a whole.
Wow... what a process! My class has voiced some of their assumptions about other cultures and heard how this makes their class mates feel... powerful. Was super engaged in the conversations that I neglected to take photos.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? The students responded well to the action plan, in particular, creating SMART goals. The layout of the SMART goals allowed students to break down their goals to a level that they were able to clearly understand. Students created and shared their SMART goa
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? Students became more aware of the importance of understanding others around them. That not everyone has the same back story/history, and that not everyone grew up in the same house, with the same values. Students particularly enjoyed the ";compliments tha
In term 4, our Whanau's fertile question was 'How can I use my power?'. The challenging racism kit fit in very nicely with this question, as it allowed students to explore their culture, heritage and identities in order to identify how they could use ";their power"; to make positive changes to the school. The students thoroughly enjoyed the activities in the kit.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? The students have become more aware that our differences are what makes us unique and that everyone has the right to feel safe in our school and community no matter what their race, religion, or gender is.
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? We have been able to discuss lots of issues openly within circle times and through the activities in the kit and this has helped us connect and understand all our differences and similarities.
We have loved using this kit as a way to address the issue of negative stereotypes and racism. My students all learnt a lot about some of the factors that contribute to racism and how we can challenge the negative thinking that happens. We have learnt that racism can be shown through people’s actions as well as their attitudes and that we need to challenge this when we see it or hear it.
