What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? I am new to School Kit, and feel the resources weren't quite suitable for my younger students. I did remember discussing with my students better alternatives to discuss Race, we started this discussion while writing our Pepeha.
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? My Students had little to no idea what ethnicity their families identified as. Very interesting to hear. We actually used the school system to help clarify their answers and discover more about each other. I found the journal brought back a lot of memor
Unfortunately I was unable to use this to the full extent it deserved, but plan on using it in Term 1 2020 as part of My Whakawhanaungatanga. As a BT I underestimated the workload and time frame to complete things. My class consisted of mainly year 2/3 with a few year 4's. I tried to use some of these awesome resources on a few separate occasions, but was not successful.

How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? Being a very culturally diverse class and this kit and plan has enabled us to connect on a deeper level. The students are now more sensitive to cultural differences and more respectful in numerous ways of these differences.
Great kit full of resources to get the children thinking about different societal factors that they weren't necessarily consciously aware of.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? Got students thinking and challenged their ideas about people and themselves.
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? It didn't have that big an impact in the room as it was for a short time, but it lead to lots of different arguments about LBQT stuff as prejudice against these groups was something they were indignant about. Hopefully it made some students feel more acce
Some parts, especially the initial introduction activities, were good for getting the students to reflect and challenge their thinking. Lots of misconceptions and stereotypes which was sad to see, but good opportunities for discussing these. We only did part of the programme as school camp got in the way, but it did get a bit confusing having to log onto the site for the activities -it took us time to find all this. Having it all in one pack would be easier or all online.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? My class are now understanding of others and are demonstrating tolerance and acceptance. We did a lot of extra work around the Black Civil Rights movement and they loved learning more about racism historically, My students are aware of the subtle ways peo
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? I think it has had a positive effect on our classroom environment which is greatly appreciated. We have children from lots of different backgrounds in our community and it was lovely to see students interact and ask questions in a safe and sensitive way.
As a whole, my classroom really enjoyed this kit. It was well thought out and lent itself to self-inquiry about other forms of racism and other historical events. My students loved challenging the stereotypes and found their ideas were challenged when they drew things like a dairy owner. I particularly enjoyed seeing the student during those ";a-ha"; or ";oh no"; moments when they started to understand just how serious this issue is. My classroom and I felt this was a safe way to talk about racism where students could ask questions that in another context may have seemed insensitive or inappropriate. This helped their learning immensely.

During the beginning of the School Kit, key questions were displayed on the board for students to think about before introducing the topic. It was important to establish classroom rules that were respectful and was a safe environment for people to share their opinions freely. The 'Class Action Plan' was both positive and student driven which was interesting with my students as many come from different cultural backgrounds.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? I think that we have come to see what a diverse bunch we are while also seeing how much we all share and have in common. I think also that we now value that diversity more. Certainly our class discussions are much richer because we don't take a fixed, mon
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? It enabled us to continue to foster and build our class culture in which we value rich (and sometimes challenging or even confronting) discussions while also accepting that we all have differing viewpoints and world views and backgrounds. In this sense, t
Another gem from School Kit. It was a very timely kit and one which resonated with the class. We are a much more diverse school than even just 5 or 10 years ago and, while I think that the kids are very accepting of each other, explicit teaching around these issues can only be a good thing.
