How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? The students have been more thoughtful about the words they are using. They are also more confident to speak out when they feel something they have heard or seen is not right.
I found the children were very aware of the different stereotypes around them however were unsure how to go about challenging these when they arose. My students developed a greater understanding of the diversity in our classroom through the learning from this kit. It has also helped them to identify their own assumptions that may have been misguided. They absolutely loved the compliments activity. Thank you for this thought provoking kit. Sorry I didn’t take many photos!

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? We have had many discussions. We have had students pulling each other up on use of language within the class, and that is now filtering out into the playground to other students. It has gone home and I have had parents discussing this with me.
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? More awareness. We were always very culturally inclusive, but now more aware of stereotyping and racism, which is a big thing for 8-9 year olds
This has been a wonderful kit. Really got the students thinking and challenging themselves and each other.

We haven't used it yet - we are planning to implement this into our Term 4 planning around New Zealand History and perspectives. The quality and content is exceptional!

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? We have become much more aware of the things we do that we don't know that we do.
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? Although we still have a way to come, we are all self-correcting when we are accidentally stereotyping. Our awareness has been raised.
We have really enjoyed the process of thinking about out our biases and stereotypes. We linked the end of the kit with some learning around diversity and the students integrated their art knowledge by creating a mask showing their understanding of diversity.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? Students are more aware of the way they interact with others. I read the students the book ";Have you filled a bucket today?"; which links flawlessly to this kit. I have been able to link the compliments poster to our team building exercises easily.
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? It is playing a part in teaching the students how to work effectively as teams. By understanding that each student is different the students are then able to understand the different interactions/responses of students.
Super awesome to have something to facilitate the tougher conversations. It is really interesting how little some students know of what racism actually is or unconscious bias. It has been an eye opener for not only my students but also myself. I have enjoyed the activities and the structure of the resource. Thank you for the amazing resource. An area for improvement could look at accepting differences of all types, rather than just race.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? Through the action plan and because it was established collaboratively, I have noticed my class are more thoughtful in their own actions. This may also be due to our own school values and the explicit teaching of those.
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? The discussions allowed students to share their ideas in a safe environment and explore issues that may have been difficult to talk about in other settings.
Personally, this was a fantastic reflection tool for myself and for my kids. We had some great in depth discussions around some of the issues surrounding ourselves today.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? We will be revisiting this kit throughout 2019 but I can see real benefit in introducing it in it's entirety when we meet our new classes in 2020. This links very closely with our Relationship Based learning PLD from the work of Russell Bishop which is on
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? Celebrates our differences and the things that make us the same! Lots of great positive relationships!
We have thoroughly enjoyed the 'Not Part of My World' activities. The children have really benefited from having conversations. We have a multi -cultural class with many ESOL children, and several others who have moved here from other countries overseas it is so very important that we celebrate uniqueness and not discriminate because of it! Thanks so much School Kit.
