In what ways did the Teacher Journal challenge you? This was useful and allowed us to develop and share ideas amongst the cohort.
The. Materials were comprehensive and interesting for the students and easy for the teachers to use and to generate discussion amongst our students. The conversations that developed showed a wide range of knowledge and personal experience of racism within their lives and their wider Whanau.

In what ways did the Teacher Journal challenge you? Didn't really use this.
Some great physical resources were available in the kit but unfortunately I could not access any of the links included with the teaching materials. This was disappointing and I was too busy at the time to follow it up. I am Intending to re-use the kit next year (in more depth as it was very rushed in term 4) with a year 10 class so will try again to access what looks like excellent resources and if I do not have any success, I will contact you. However, these kits are amazing and I thank you all for your hard work - they are an invaluable resource for all teachers.

In what ways did this kit empower your students to challenge racism? Students became far more aware of their language used, situations faced and disparity within the city. The challenge is now to implement and secure the long lasting learning which is always the problem. Certainly girls were far more aware than the boys. I

How effective was the use of social Media for Fighting Social Injustice Its another tool but our students live in the technology bubble and see this as another way of trying to be relevant. These platforms are good and bad
In what ways did the Teacher Journal challenge you? Unfortunately Covid interruptions impacted the full use of the journal.
The kit was used in a high decile private school in the South Island where racism isn't seemingly an issue but using the resource awakened the students preconceived ideas and allowed for an awareness that subtle racism or segregation is within all societies. We can study racism from around the world but really it is what happens in the faces of the students that really is the learning. Unfortunately using the kit fully was impacted by Covid interruptions and rejigging the year planner but will fully and completely use the Kit next year

The resources in the kit were fantastic but we never got the chance to use them to their potential due to lockdowns and then having to cram mahi in to a shorter period of time in class.

How effective was the use of social Media for Fighting Social Injustice It enable students to not only be empowered, but helped them to empower others, in the way that they present themselves and the way others present themselves on social media in regards to race and culture. They became more discerning.
In what ways did the Teacher Journal challenge you? It allowed me to be more reflective of my own unconscious biases within the school/classroom space.
This kit was confronting for both staff and students alike and provided meaningful opportunities for people to come together in shared understandings of race and culture.

In what ways did this kit empower your students to challenge racism? Many students seem to say that someone is 'being racist' as a joke, or as an excuse when they are being told off for something. Taking the time to focus on these examples and many discussions helped a number of students to focus on what racism really is,

The class that I was using this kit with generally had low literacy levels, so the discussion tasks and prompts were much more helpful in my situation (I do not see this as an issue with the kit though, mor the general engagement levels in the c
In what ways did the Teacher Journal challenge you? Mostly about the ways that I could improve the ways that I interact with students of various ethnicities in my classes. Fantastic kit. A great bunch of resources that really get you and your students thinking. The prompts in the teachers guide are brilliant to get you thinking about the way that you teach, and many are great for use as prompts in class as well.

How effective was the use of social Media for Fighting Social Injustice I didn't get too much time to explore this part as much as I wanted to due to time constraints but had discussions around instagram and how it contributes to the fight against social justice and sometimes the opposite depending on posts.
In what ways did the Teacher Journal challenge you? It made me really think about ākonga identities and how it is easy to make assumptions about them eg we may assume that our Māori ākonga know their tikanga and whakapapa.
I think this kit has invaluable as it fits in nicely with our school values and inparticular celebrating diversity. We are a culturally responsive school who have developed term concepts in our Junior School and in our Year 9 Homeroom environment where we value and honour traditional Māori ways of being and doing; Mātauranga Māori. These values and principles are woven throughout the term concepts and contexts for learning: e Tuakiri -Identity- Tikanga Values (Whanaungatanga, Whakapapa, Kotahitanga) Whanaungatanga -Relationships- (Te Tiriti o Waitangi, Kaitiakitanga,Tangata whenuatanga) Whakarerekētanga -Change: valuing and honouring traditional Māori ways of being and doing ( Maramatanga, Mohiotanga,Kaitiakitanga,Te Tiriti o Waitangi. Auahatanga -Innovation:Tikanga Values (Mahitahi, Wānanga Rangatiratanga)
