How effective was the use of social Media for Fighting Social Injustice We ran a separate assessment linked to the idea of racism and confronting it for this unit. However, I see that the use of social media could be an effective hook for some students.
In what ways did the Teacher Journal challenge you? Teachers in my department approached it in different ways. Some used it and did the additional readings etc. However, some focused on using the resources and tailoring them to suit the needs of the learners in front of them.
This kit provided teachers with a range of useful resources. In particular, it helped teachers be more confident with their teaching, especially those that were not familiar with the topic. It contained a range of activities that suited the needs of a range of learners - some activities were more engaging than others.

How effective was the use of social Media for Fighting Social Injustice Great interactions with the students using their "Media". Could consider TikTok.
In what ways did the Teacher Journal challenge you? Was great to have more games and activities for the students to lead. I have more views and opinions about the topic, more student voice. Great posters to put in the classroom. Unfortunately I did not get to complete the whole program due to lockdown. But
Fantastic resources and activities to use on the wall or discuss with the students. Brilliantly presented and designed.

In what ways did this kit empower your students to challenge racism? Made them question their own ideas and unpack the influences that make us form opinions. However, had quite a few comments regarding different views from home which made for some challenging teaching moments

How effective was the use of social Media for Fighting Social Injustice On the tasks we chose that were applicable to our cohort the students were engaged. Access to instagram difficult and some sections maybe not PC for Year 9's? Students were challenged to understand and unpack some comments. We did not create our own insta
In what ways did the Teacher Journal challenge you? Made me realise that we do not often look at the intricacies and back stories of some of our students.
Thank you for providing the kits to us, however we did find not only the discussion and questions challenging but also the level of the content for Year 9 students. The personal reflection booklet was excellent and as stated to the developers already we would love to utilise this with our staff moving into 2022. The initial activities and discussions proved very worthwhile, but we found using the wheels for feedback difficult. Many of the questions were irrelevant as we do not have the broader range of cultures and students identifying to ethnic groups other than Pakeha European. We persevered and worked through the charts- great researching and investigating with students engaged. Again, however, many of the resources had high literacy expectations or our network blocks internet sites such as Instagram- phones not encouraged so this proved challenging. So much time has gone into producing these resources that it would be great to have more understanding around the literacy levels many of us are facing in school right now. We have completed the tasks, added some of our own, written feedback paragraphs on what we have learned. We are now extending this thinking into Human Rights for the last few weeks with the students already making conclusion about racial inequality, stereotyping and prejudice impacting others.

In what ways did this kit empower your students to challenge racism? Using Instagram, a tool they are very familiar with, allowed them to see how they can play a part in calling out racism. It also made them more aware of the racism that occurs in our local community.

How effective was the use of social Media for Fighting Social Injustice The use of Instagram was brilliant for my most of my students. Most enjoyed being introduced to a new echo chamber and told me enthusiastically about who they were following. There were a few students who were a little wary of following someone they did n
In what ways did the Teacher Journal challenge you? I really liked the way the booklet progressed and it gac=vae me ideas to think about for myself and for the students. I read through the booklet but did not have the time to complete all the activities.
The resources provided for this kit were fantastic. Very contemporary and engaged the students. The posters especially area wealth of information and points of interest for the students. I did have trouble with working out Canva but a number of my students were very good at using it.

In what ways did this kit empower your students to challenge racism? The Pictionary type game was great as all students could participate and it showed knowledge and understanding of the topic. It also allowed personal experiences to be shared, particularly with our refugee students, new immigrants etc.

How effective was the use of social Media for Fighting Social Injustice We had already decided on an assessment for this unit, and therefore did not use social media task as such. I would have liked to have had more time to integrate the resources along with my planning of the unit.
In what ways did the Teacher Journal challenge you? I didn't have enough time to delve too deeply into the journal. But it does have huge potential.
I found the kit contained a lot of interesting resources and equipment. It was obvious that a lot of thought had gone into preparing this particular resource. Allowed students to discuss and share experiences of racism that they have experienced in Aotearoa New Zealand.
