How effective was the use of social Media for Fighting Social Injustice We are doing this next, however, this will be a bit tougher as my school has a non cell phone policy.

In what ways did the Teacher Journal challenge you? I had to reconcile that some of the things I had pushed aside and buried, were actually important to me and I was still slightly resentful about. It helped some of my students to feel safe sharing as I shared some of my experiences.

“We are about half way through the unit using the kit. And I have to say I am really encouraged by the way my Year 9 class have engaged with the material. We started the kit by discussing a co-constructed code of conduct that we all could agree on, dived into some conversations, and started filling out our vocabulary with some new terms. Today we used the pictionary cards for a competitive and action packed class, finishing the lesson talking about why we chose the picture clues for the cards, and what that said about out unconscience bias/stereotype. I am excited about where to go next and am really glad that I ordered this kit. This is my second school kit and both have been hugely successful.”

In what ways did this kit empower your students to challenge racism? The kit encouraged our students to examine stereotypes, however it was interesting to note that they were already very aware of what stereotypes were and actually actively resisted them!

From this they were able to see even NZ has issues and they must stand up to these. The students being open to the conversation in a more rural, conservative backdrop was pleasing.
