In what ways did this kit empower your students to challenge racism? Hugely. Biggest thing was the discussions that the kit invoked. Loved listening to them tell their own stories and comparing with others.

In what ways did the Teacher Journal challenge you? The challenging parts were the links and extension work but can be looked into further with a fellow collleague instead

It initiated conversations around checking their own behaviours and social interactions as they got to understand some of the situations in which other people dealt with issues in society. Making the students more culturally aware and understating diversity.

In what ways did the Teacher Journal challenge you? It affirmed more than challenged.
In what ways did this kit empower your students to challenge racism? We were looking at our local history and this helped to highlight repetition of racism throughout history and we looked at what institutionalised racism is and what it looks like in NZ. This was probably the most empowering aspect, as students were able to identify underlying "normalised" racism here and some students felt empowered to share their experiences of racism.

“This was awesome and quite comprehensive. Because I tried to implement this in a module that was already planned, it made it very difficult to cover everything. In hindsight, I realise that the kit is so well made it would have been best to focus on it as a stand-alone module. Sadly, I did not do it justice. I intend to use it again next year.”

In what ways did this kit empower your students to challenge racism? Many students didn't see themselves as racist but during the unit they were able to identify how their viewpoints and opinions can affect others especially those of minorities.
How high was student engagement throughout this kit?

“I used this resource with my Year 9s in a unit on cultural interaction. Students really enjoyed the "Not part of my world" activity. It led to some good discussions on stereotypes and racism. This set the class up well for a look at the impact of colonisation on indigenous people”
