A quality resource kit with resources that have allowed students to open up a number of discussions around their own cultural identity and an introduction to racism.

Absolutely useful in its relevance and as a tool of engagement for my students. We were looking in depth into the Chinese Poll Tax and the resources given within the kit (both physical and digital) aided my class in putting themselves into the shoes of those who were subjected to racism in the past. Will definitely be using for years to come.

In what ways did the Teacher Journal challenge you? It made me reflect on my own bias and also acknowledge what I need to learn. It also helped me reflect on my own experiences growing up and how this shaped me into who I am today. I did also use these questions and concepts with my students as well.
In what ways did this kit empower your students to challenge racism? There were topics and people that they could explore who have made an impact in the past and today.

I used this resource for my Y10s in Term 1 to facilitate a Unit plan on Movers & Movements that explores the Black Civil Rights Movement, BLM, South African Apartheid, & the responses that challenge societal inequities. The students loved learning the concepts that were provided in the 'Not In My Book' resource and seeing how these appeared in the topics but also within their own lives. The resources also allowed us to explore further issues that need challenging and ways of exploring these within the classroom. Such as making Social Media a source that can be used for both good & bad.

It was great to incorporate in my unit, we have explored treatment of local peoples and international citizens. This unit leads well for my Year 10's into NCEA human rights unit. Thank you

We used our kit to support a small group of students who needed education about racism, microaggressions and banter. The posters particularly were a wonderful resource for this.

My Y10’s have engaged fully with the resources and have challenged many personal preconceptions. They are currently writing an essay on their choice from the posters and without the resources provided I don’t think they would have had the confidence to do it well

In what ways did the Teacher Journal challenge you? This was a great reminder of how different students experience school and how as a teacher I can tend to their needs.
The activities in this kit were great starters for class discussion, experiences and different points of view. Not a highly multicultural class/school - some students got it and some didn't.
