In what ways did this kit empower your students to challenge racism? The posters were probably the most useful in terms of providing examples to look at and discuss. Some students struggled with the level at which the source material was pitched, while I felt that in some cases some very complex and multi-layered events we

How effective was the use of social Media for Fighting Social Injustice Many students were interested in specific contexts - for example, the Pasifika students were particularly interested in the information post on Pacific peoples, and likewise Maori students in the Maori discrimination - but it was difficult to get a crosso

Lots of food for thought and discussion. The class (and our school) is very multicultural and there were a lot of things which resonated with students, but some also felt that there were a lot of assumptions being made about how their teachers, neighbours, or - as one student put it - "white people" think and act. Many were quick to identify that while some people act in a racist way, most people just want to be nice.

In what ways did this kit empower your students to challenge racism? Made students think about the power of language/words and what they might mean to others. It provided a really strong base when teaching the case studies from our school course.

In what ways did the Teacher Journal challenge you? Linked and supported a lot of the professional development we've been doing. Made us think about our own perspectives and influences.
The kit was used as part of wider course titled 'Law & Order' with a focus on Human Rights. The concepts fit well as a lead in to historic and contemporary human rights topics.

How effective was the use of social Media for Fighting Social Injustice Due to school IT policies and issues around self managing social media I choose not to use Instagram. We did, as a class, look at positive social media examples of challenging stereotypes and examples of people advocating for diversity and positive change
In what ways did the Teacher Journal challenge you? I was hoping there was also some journal reflection activity in kit or online so the students and I could all reflect on the knowledge and insights gained. I didnt use all of the pages
I found the advice in the kit for teachers on how to teach and approach the topics with students a helpful component in my preparation. I gained good insights into my own biases and student perspectives of relationships through the activities. The students enjoyed the stereotypes pictionary activity but we removed cards as some as younger students at year 9 may have felt vulnerable. I incorporated the kit activities into a larger study of indigenous communities and the ongoing impacts of colonisation and cultural representation in society and perspectives. I did feel the resources were more centred around educating the teacher rather than a focus on activies for students to also chart their growth and development around the themes in this kit.

In what ways did this kit empower your students to challenge racism? We are only at global at the moment and are discussing BLM…challenging white supremacy in America. This is a movement they have heard about but not really thought too much about. They have been fascinated finding out about the history and ‘systemic’ racis

How effective was the use of social Media for Fighting Social Injustice We haven’t got this far in the unit yet, but I imagine the students will like to think about the power of social media and that they have the ability to ‘influence/challenge’ the fight against social injustice. So far this kit has started some great conve
In what ways did the Teacher Journal challenge you? What a great place to start. To reflect on my own journey and challenge my own perceptions. To think about the factors/people forming my unconscious biases and then to use these resources with the students.
We are only two weeks into the lessons but the students are really engaged. We started with the stereotypes Pictionary. Awesome. Really got some great conversation happening and built interest. The unit is being created by me as I go along. This is with a low ability year 9 class who really need to challenge themselves to think about their own bias and where it comes from.

How effective was the use of social Media for Fighting Social Injustice Didn't use this activity this year, but will add it in next year!
In what ways did the Teacher Journal challenge you? Didn't use this, this year.
We only used a few of the activities in the box as we were already teaching the unit when found and received! But the activities we did use really engaged the students and got them thinking about their own perceptions etc.

How effective was the use of social Media for Fighting Social Injustice This was challenging as it was quite confronting for students as social media is such an important part of some of their lives. Overall once those barriers were broken down they managed to get into it.
In what ways did the Teacher Journal challenge you? The Teacher Journal worked well, but maybe needed a bit more resource wise. It did have some great resources to identify how we may accidently promote certain 'positive' stereotypes in the classroom.
Overall the School Kit worked well it allowed students to engage with how racism is a part of their day to day lives. It challenged them to not only see how racism, stereotypes, and biases impacted others but also how society allows these things to permeate all levels from interpersonal relationships to systemic issues.

How effective was the use of social Media for Fighting Social Injustice My students aren't big on Instagram, they are the tik tok generation, but could be a fun challenge to get them to make a tik tok around the same ideas.
In what ways did the Teacher Journal challenge you? Some great ideas in here, some pages didn't really apply but was good to get me into the head space. Would've liked to see a condensed version for class.
This box was amazing! Not only was I able to deliver some great learning to my Yr 9 class, I was able to integrate activities throughout my yr 10 and 11 programs as well. Our favourite was the pictionary game, it opened a lot of eyes! Only negative, the instructions weren't so easy to follow, but I probably didn't look hard enough beyond the print out!
