How have the components within the kit helped develop your student self-confidence? This kit has given us direction, focus and shared terminology. We had the Life Ed bus also, and the programmes supported each other. It also helped to clarify my own thinking and beliefs around Self Esteem and the role it plays in every interaction.

How have the components of the kit helped develop Student-Teacher communication? The check-in tokens have been super-effective. Great way to check on what's going on for kids if they're in the red. The charging station look so impressive on the wall. We haven't yet put it to its fullest use, but I'll be keeping most of my kids.

“Thank you for giving us the opportunity to work with this kit. It's excellent. I would recommend that teachers use it in the first part of the year to give plenty of time to bed in the concepts - which are fantastic, and deserve to be dug deeply into. We used in in Term 4, and have been scrambling a bit to complete it in time to write a review. BUT because I'll have most of my kids back next year, we'll be able to carry on. I love the online support material. There is so much to this programme - and the way it is designed, teachers still have choice and therefore ownership. Well done School Kit and Dove.”

How have the components of the kit helped develop Student-Teacher communication? I didn't use the charging stations, ran out of time and there was a lot of writing for some of the year 5 students I had.

How have the components within the kit helped develop your student self-confidence? Students could identify the qualities of self esteem in themselves and notice what those qualities look like amongst themselves and their peers.

How have the components of the kit helped develop Student-Teacher communication? This did not noticeably change within the limited sessions of teaching.

“I was only able to partially teach the Dove Self Esteem kit this term due to multiple time constraints. However, from what my students did, everyone involved could see the benefits and place themselves within the concepts. The small number of sessions was not enough to noticeably affect my students' self esteem or self confidence. I plan to use it again in term 1 of 2022 as a way to develop a positive classroom culture.”

“The “My Self” booklet was amazing. I had many learners that visited the hauora services team at school fill it in. It helped with communicating. With them and building a great relationship. It’s something I’m looking to adapt next year for Year 9 transitions to high school.”

How have the components within the kit helped develop your student self-confidence? I have a Year 5/6 class and we really enjoyed the discussions about the shrink and boost cards.

How have the components of the kit helped develop Student-Teacher communication? The charging station was a hit. the kids loved using it and any time during the day and it gave them a moment to check in with themselves and notice when their emotions were effecting them.

“I really loved this kit. It fitted perfectly with a lot of wellbeing and PB4L lessons throughout the year and gave me a new and really easy way of checking in with the students throughout this last term.”

How have the components within the kit helped develop your student self-confidence? The charging station, Check in tokens, looking at self through reflection goals and booklet were amazing resources.

How have the components of the kit helped develop Student-Teacher communication? Each of the components were powerful in there own right but for my kids and I, the check in station was extremely pertinent in helping to further build the relationships already established through individual converstations that arose.

“Such an awesome resource - this kit gave my whanau a safe platform to able to identify with their feelings, understand themselves in more depth and to know how to manage them. Luca - "I liked that we got to check in everyday with our tokens."This comment and tool was especially valuable for me as a teacher as I got to learn more about my kids. Daniel -"It is good for me to understand why I feel the way I do in different situations." Grace - "I liked sharing my super powers". Millie - "It is good to reflect on our feelings, behaviours and to know that who we are is okay." It was great for my kids to look at the things that they can and can't control. They were already aware that we need to respect each other for who we are - but this reinforced this idea when it was needed, especially with me being away due to an accident and them having a change in class routines. This resource was extremely relevant due to the lockdown that we had this year - they pulled on the resource to help them relate to their feelings. Our kids became more aware of who they are, what makes them tick and that what they do impacts not only on theirs but others lives as well.”

How have the components within the kit helped develop your student self-confidence? Letters from parents Booklet - this helped students identify exactly how they were feeling and different ways they could recharge their battery

How have the components of the kit helped develop Student-Teacher communication? We used the tokens and charging station. I set aside time during the day to check -in with students and their tokens. If I had more time, we would have worked together to create our own cards, and motivators in the charging station.

“My class enjoyed this kit. We began late in Term 3 and finished it this term. Students were / are dealing with a lot of different issues, and I found that the Kit was a great platform for students to share their thoughts and feelings in a number of different ways. Many of my students had spent months preparing to go to Aims Games, and when the event was cancelled ( for some, for the second year in a row), were able to talk with others about how they were feeling and used the charging station as a way to cope and get back into a positive space. For some other students, it made them more aware of how they were feeling, and who to reach out to for help. As a teacher, I found it a useful tool to "keep my finger on the class pulse"- to know how people were feeling. The letters from the parents were simply amazing - students really treasured their letters.”
