How have the components within the kit helped develop your student self-confidence? I have noticed a few of the quieter children in the senior school speaking up more about things that they are unhappy about. They are more confident to follow their own thoughts away from their friends if they need to.

How have the components of the kit helped develop Student-Teacher communication? I feel we were unable to see full effects of the kit, due to the lockdown of Auckland. The kids who really needed this aspect were not well engaged in online learning and did not have the right support at home to push this which is a shame.

How have the components within the kit helped develop your student self-confidence? I have noticed that my students are more considerate of each other. They take notice of each other’s' body language and check in with each other if they feel someone is feeling down. They are also more verbal about how they are feeling themselves.

How have the components of the kit helped develop Student-Teacher communication? This unit has given me the ability to check in with my students wellbeing in a positive manner. When I may have noticed something but been reluctant to intervene I now use the language and the experiences this unit provide to justify checking in with them

“(I am sorry for the late reply but Lockdown had impacted on the teaching of this unit.) I found this unit impressive. The concept of the ";Classroom Base Station"; providing a safe space or my students to 'recharge' as appropriate is clever. All the students valued the 'Kei te pehea koe' tokens and I found them a key motivator for me, as their teacher, to remember to check in with those who needed some friendly support. This unit encouraged the students to tap into their own feelings more, and to consider how their classmates were feeling at any given time. What more could I ask for as their teacher? The letters from their caring adults are something the students will treasure for their whole lives and I wish all children had the opportunity to receive something like this from their caregivers. Thanks you so much for such a carefully considered and creative resource. It has enhanced the dynamics in my classroom immensely and I will be continuing to implement many of the ideas within this unit in all my future classes. It has changed my teaching practice for the better!”

How have the components within the kit helped develop your student self-confidence? The letters they received from their families was a great start to this unit. For some kids, their families had made copies and all family members including siblings filled out a letter. We finished this with the class having to write one back.

How have the components of the kit helped develop Student-Teacher communication? By this time in the year, I have a pretty good rapport with my students. So, for this reason, I will be doing this kit again in Term 1 next year. To foster those relationships, hopefully, sooner.

“A beautiful kit. We were interrupted with Covid Distance teaching, so we did not complete all aspects of this kit. I will be teaching this in Term 1 next year, with my new class as I think this would be a great way to get the class running.”

How have the components of the kit helped develop Student-Teacher communication? This kit linked in beautifully around Sexuality Education and knowing what makes each of us special and unique. It encouraged discussion between the students and I and the students embraced differences between one another and their peers and me as teacher

“My class absolutely loved this kit! It fitted nicely with Sexuality Education (which we were teaching this term as well). The booklets were so awesome and it enabled the children to identify some of their qualities and what makes them unique and special and also what qualities are important to them in friendships and in people around them. Well done on an awesome kit!”

How have the components within the kit helped develop your student self-confidence? Totally! Students were able to communicate in a different way which gave many a boost they needed to share and help others which in return boosted their worth and self confidence!

How have the components of the kit helped develop Student-Teacher communication? It was great! Some of my students have a hard time communicating orally, with this kit they are able to communicate in a different way and I will be using this moving forward.

It was difficult to gauge how successful it was over all because we went into lockdown just as we were diving deeper into the kit. This kit linked in very well with our over arching concept of pursuing happiness and all the aspects that form this.

How have the components of the kit helped develop Student-Teacher communication? Again it was hard to gauge this but because of lockdown but over all it was a point of reference we could come back to when checking in with student's during distance learning in regards to how they were feeling eg. who is feeling red today?

“The self confidence kit was a great way to engage with out year 7 and 8's around self confidence and self worth and navigating through the changes of adolescence , giving them the tools and power to make positive change and be in charge of their own emotions. The charge up station was great for this as were the batteries. It also gave everyone a common language to communicate with in and around self - confidence”
