“I'd love to share the experience my students and I have been through. I completed the same tasks my students would complete and it started a personal journey that I remain on now. My students, were in rapture at every step of this journey and asked lots of questions about the value of each battery. My students have used the recharge station with enthusiasm and even one of my more challenging students has committed to carry out the instructions on his cards daily. This morning he tried to make everyone laugh and it created a wonderful start to our day. Even our principal has a token and took a book to participate more fully in the process. He is trying to raise his self awareness and we spent some time as a class helping him through some of his reflective thoughts. The videos inspired my students and helped them to take their selfies and look more positively at themselves. I also invited a parent who has lots of struggles to have a go at the journal and look at the videos. She is grateful that she has something to help her start a new journey in her life. This kit is one I will use for years to come. Thank you Dove, thank you School Kit and the School Kit squad.”
“My students and I really enjoyed this Kit. I just wished we had done this in Term 1 it would've compliment our Hauora - Inquiry learning. This kit got my students to love and appreciate all the things that make them special which was great. The Letters that returned from parents were beautiful. We had parents evening and it was a big topic of conversation. My kids wanted to share their letters to the class so I had to take a photocopy and they kept the original. Some parents shared that filling in the letter made them realise that they need to be more vocal when telling their kids how much they love them and appreciate the things they do for family at home. I will probably continue the Self -charge station as my students enjoy reflecting on their day and making positive changes for the next day.”
“I was hoping to use this for Yr10, but it would be better suited for a form class - or more resources so that it could be completed with multiple classes throughout the day.”
“The students really enjoyed filling in the booklet activities. This provided many with a chance to take a good look at themselves and to realise all the good qualities that they have rather than focus on the negative which they often dwell on or is commented on by others. Thanks for allowing us to use the kit this year.”
“We have been doing daily tracking and I have a google sheet where I have kept track of where they place their tokens. It has been a real eye-opener. I have a group of children who are consistently red/low. Their feedback on the forms are telling me that friendship issues and things that are happening at home are very much on their minds. I have adapted my programme to include mindful art, purposeful lessons on making and keeping friends. I am hoping that it will start to bring about a positive change. I am continuing to track.”
“Every day, I can see the benefit of this project for my class. We have discussed some personal issues which related to the Outcomes and this has allowed me to understand each child a little better. Some of the parents have gone above and beyond with their part in some of the discussion, which I hope has helped cement relationships at home. The journal has been a useful tool and I hope that they will become interesting memories for them in the future. I especially like the Daily Check In tokens and keep a close on eye how my kids are feeling each day. We haven't finished the unit yet, but I'm very glad we started and will use many of the tools throughout the year.”
