“Overall the kit has been useful in getting the students to reflect on their own actions and whether it helps to boost themselves and their self esteem or whether it lowers. It also gave them the opportunity to reflect on how their actions can support others in our classroom. I would say that the kit is probably much more suited to the older age levels. I did this with my year 3/4 class and felt some of the themes were just a bit too old for them. However I did modified lessons and we spent a lot more time talking and discussing so they could understand each of the check your charges. The kids really loved being able to use the tokens to check their charge, and as a teacher I found it extremely useful to find out more about what was happening in my students lives.”

“The little diaries were cool. Students loved the daily check in which was a non-threatening way for students to identify and express their emotions or concerns. Some chose to want further support to unpack their feelings, where for others just writing it down was enough to get it off their chest and get on with the day. We always tried to ensure they identified something positive that they were looking forward to in the day.”

How has this kit helped develop your student's self confidence? Some of my students are able to tell me how they're feeling now - before they weren't sharing with me what was going on with their internal selves and now they are sharing - this is a development in self-confidence, requiring courage!
