“The Self Confidence kit is an amazing resource which was an asset in our class in Term one. After Covid and the cyclone last year, well-being has been a focus for us and this kit was relevant in all ways. Children understood that we all deal with things in different ways and this kit married up perfectly with Ko au, whanaungatanga, self identity and our PB4L ethics. It also encouraged a lot of in-depth conversations. I also have a couple of students with high anxiety and this was beneficial to them.”

Please provide 2+ examples of student voice on the kit's impact on them We know that we need to use nice words to make people feel good. We know it is ok to feel angry but it what we do when we are angry that counts.
Which kit components were the most impactful and why? Knowing it is ok to feel certain ways, but it is what we do our actions that count. Don't hit out or be mean, learning how to control those emotions.
What is the legacy this kit will leave behind on your learners? To breath and find a clam place.

What impact has this kit had on your classroom community? We all understand that some days are good and some days are bad. We also know we have the power to turn things around.
“It took us a while to get started but once we got going it was lovely to read the letters when they came back. Not all letters came back which was a bit sad for some of the students. The booklets went well but once again for some students the circle of influence was a bit tricky. What has really taken off is the daily check in, its really great and my students that need to check in with me can do it quietly and they know I will check the box for tokens during the day and have a chat with them if needed. I loved the kit and will keep the check in station going all year. It was beautifully presented too!”

Please provide 2+ examples of student voice on the kit's impact on them Rebecca- Rebecca was really eager to do the tasks after seeing them on my desk. "I liked doing circle time and talking about what we would do." Dixie "I liked the myself book, it was good to look at my circle of influence and seeing what others do for their self care battery".
Which kit components were the most impactful and why? Resolving conflict cards, Myself booklets. I like the idea of letter sheets but this required whānau buy in as well as students taking them home and bringing back so could be a mixed bag of who completed and returned them.
What is the legacy this kit will leave behind on your learners? It has set us up for the year and helped us to learn more about our classmates.
In what ways has this kit helped develop student confidence It has given them the language they may need as well as a clear understanding of how we might deal with certain issues.

What impact has this kit had on your classroom community? I hope that it means we have an understanding and empathy for each other. I will reflect on this in Term 4 we everyone is a bit more tired and less tolerant.
“We ended up doing this in term 1, which worked out well as I was getting to know new ākonga. My year 7/8 akonga enjoyed the myself booklets by weren't as comfortable to use the displays that were easily seen by their peers. We used the resolving conflict cards during our circle time, this was a great way to also set school wide expectations within a new class.”
