How effective were the components of this kit?
Please provide 2+ examples of student voice on the kit's impact on them
The 'You're more beautiful than you think' video helped me to stop being so negative about my flaw and embrace me as me. " The red zone was an area that I needed to work on, and the skills taught in these lessons helped me to tell my teacher or show my teacher that I was upset and needed some time to get back into the green zone."
Which kit components were the most impactful and why?
The videos as my students are quite visual. I also found the 'check my charge' components, the daily check in cards, getting the students to identify their 'superpower'. The reason being is that we were focusing on puberty at the time which was a very intense topic. I felt that this kit was a great support when teaching puberty as the tasks were a fun and interactive way to teach self esteem and being okay with being themselves.
What is the legacy this kit will leave behind on your learners?
To focus on the positive things about themselves.
In what ways has this kit helped develop student confidence
The check my charge helped me as a teacher identify those students that were in the red zone before they even came to school and help find strategies to support them through the rough days.
How successful has this kit been in building student resilisence?
How has this kit helped develop student resilience?
The red zone sheet helped with my discussions with the tamariki that struggled with resilience. Referring back to the strategies also helped my students use the same strategies and questions with one another. I also ended up with covid and the kids had a reliever (many don't usually cope with this change). Several of my students reminded them of strategies that they could use to pull themselves out of the red zone and be more resilient with the change.
How high was student engagement throughout this kit?
What impact has this kit had on your classroom community?
We have camp next term so have included lots of team building activities. We have two students that struggle to manage with their behaviour but I found that their self esteem was incredibly low, the come to school angry or upset. This kit had videos and tasks that helped the other students in my class recognise that these two boys home lives aren't great and to show some compassion or befriend them.
What impact has this kit had on your classroom community?
I found that I need to do this kit every year. It def was a game changer and helped me to identify why several of my boys struggle with resilience and it came down to low self esteem about themselves. I have many girls with anxiety and a lot of this is due to social media, and caring about what their peers think.
