How did the kit components encourage mathematical thinking for your students? Lots of comparisons - time, speed, distance as forms of measurement were fantastic.
How many DIY World Records did your class make? We only managed 5. Working in teams turned out to be challenging for some, and we had to rethink our learning to better support this resource.

Thanks for the great World Records resource. Unfortunately our class were not quite ready to participate in the activities. We realised that there were a number of skills we needed to build on, to reach the teamwork and participation to engage thoroughly with this. Teaching in a Year 4-5 class, and the Year 4s needed more skills before starting this. We felt that the Year 5s would have loved to explore this resource further.

This was a fun end of year activity to go that was fairly student-led in the end. The tamariki enjoyed trying each other’s world records and there was lots of good learning, including what would make a good record.

How did the kit components encourage mathematical thinking for your students? There was a flurry of excitement anytime it was kit time. We had a lot of children becoming the teacher to help and encourage those who found it tricky. The collaboration and communication through this kit in regards to sharing new mathematical thinking was superb to see.

We have thoroughly enjoyed this kit with our buddy class. We are a year 2 class, and our buddy class is a Year 5 class. It was a great kit to use together to help build relationships. The older kids were familiar with the Guinness Book of records and they had multiple ideas for challenges.

This kit was so much fun. My class had a great time coming up with ideas. They got very creative. They were all engaged and couldn't wait to give each record a go. They also kept trying to beat their own record with each attempt. This linked in well with measurement.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? Exploring other world records by researching books and the internet - writing and reading. How to measure in distance and time and compare data.
I found this kit too time heavy. Having every student invent a world record and the attempt all the other world records became too laborious. We just designed and did a couple.
