What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? P.E, Health, Language (writing), ART (students created a banner for our class),
This kit was very helpful in engaging my students in a rich learning task, that incoroprated team work, decision making, managing students and timers, being specific about how to accurately measure a challenge, steps / jumps / minutes / distance etc. The students celebrated each others challenges and it was great to engage less reluctant learners to get into learning outside the classroom on the courts and field. Another positive was the way it allowed students to select a challenge, and most students chose a skill that they themselves were capable of doing. I would definitely recommend this kit for other students for the Year 5/6 7/8 level.

How did the kit components encourage mathematical thinking for your students? Mathematical thinking was encouraged by the need to figure out how to measure, what to measure, what is measureable, units of measure and in particular how to be accurate and consistent. Critical thinking including how to set up and organise the event.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? PE pracitcing all the skills we needed for the challenges Reading Reading all the Guinness World Record books
This kit was so much fun and engaging for everyone! We had so much fun and learned so much from this kit. This was definitely one of the best kits for Year 4 and for our measurement focus at the end of the term. The students loved the equipment the old school timers, measuring tapes and most especially the lanyards for the officials and the badges for the record holders. The recording sheets and banners made the kit feel real and the records we were setting became authentic like the Guinness records we researched. The measurement activities will be more memorable as the students were leading their learning by creating the tasks by figuring out what being measurable even means, units of measure, and how to be accurate and consistent.

Our tamariki loved engaging with the DIY World Records kit! It tied together lots of curriculum areas that we had been focusing on such as measurement, mean/median/mode/range, and word types. Ot was fantastic and they were all able to complete the tasks in a way that they found interesting. They loved coming up with their own record and then trying to break others, such a fun day!!
