What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? TI was able to link it to Maori, mapping, social sciences and Inquiry learning. Students discussed mathematical concepts too.

How did you find the open format of this kit? I think the kit was great how it was. I was thankful for all the links provided to video clips as my class enjoyed these. The story telling cubes were very helpful.

“This kit is fantastic. Unfortunately due to Covid-19 I wasn't able to undertake as much of this as intended. I was able to make links to Maori culture and my class discussed journeys which the kit supported. One of my students was able to make links to family stories taht they had heard about their grandfather coming to NZ on a large boat. I unpacked a lot of the vocabulary for the students and we discussed how far Captain Cook would have explored.”

“Due to Covid I did not use the kit. I am retiring at the end of this year so I have given the Kit to a new teacher at our school. My job on return after lockdown changed so I was unable to make use of the kit.”

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? The kit provided great cross-curricular learning for students, however to do some of the tasks we would of had to do a look of work beforehand to ensure the tasks were 100% understood for the children as our class is very young eg. create a bird task

“Great for our overall theme this year- Our Place to Call Home. We were able to look into our cultural backgrounds and traditions related to our families. The exploring kit allowed us to look at Maori myths and legends and we extended this to other cultures in our hub.”
