“I found the kit was more at the Y3 end of Y1-3. I had to do my own thing. Despite everyones best efforts and the review being required now it is before I've had a chance to finish what I had chosen to do with the kit due to the lockdown and settling the class back in. I had NE so no part of the kit was accessible to them with out direct teacher input which was a shame. it was so different to the ice cream kit I'd had before which was great to use with a year 1 class. I have no photos as yet as I'm just starting, in the middle of my work around what I am doing with this kit. I really needed the rest of this term before doing a review.”

How did you find the open format of this kit? More abstract but still really valuable. I loved seeing how some schools had drawn out the albatross and a blue whale on the playground to explore size and measurement. I wish I had thought of this! I hope to use this again with another class next year.

“I found this kit more abstract than the farming kit. The aspects were the same but I found it harder to know how best to use the kit, so we just enjoyed it. I loved the storytelling aspect and we enjoyed 'exploring' some of the resources online before lockdown. It was great how both the farming kit and the explorer kit weaved so much oral language in both english and te reo. The mats are a masterpiece! Thank you.”

“I felt that I never gave this kit the time it deserved due to coming back from covid. We were straight into assessment and catch up and I just didnt get into the swing of it. Im sorry, because its the first time I have failed to use the kit. I look forward to using it next term.”

How did you find the open format of this kit? At first it was a bit daunting and I was unsure what to do with it. I had to read the instructions several times to get my head around it. Looking at what other teachers did was great for inspiration.

“While we did not use the Kit as we had hoped to due to Lockdown, we still enjoyed the activities we did do and will continue to use in the classroom. I loved how it could be linked to different curriculum areas. Maybe in the future would love just some more teacher instructions given.”

How did you find the open format of this kit? It was well organised with beautiful resources! I did find it a little confusing initially and read some of the instructions a few times to understand it. Was great getting the email later on regarding ideas showing how other teachers used it.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? Used for oral language, written language and art. The paintbrush tied nicely into us making our dream cloth in Level 2 that we have displayed in our room

“A great kit with some amazing resources which were good fro prompts, challenging our imagination and got us thinking. Students loved the thing+that +for cards. Some quite hilarious responses . We used the question cards with our tuakana teina class. These worked well with most groups sharing with one another and some made a poster about their topic. I also used a couple for writing prompts. Time was the main barrier to using all of this kit's resources”
